Joseph, to me, has a point. The Komets really have not had a back up that I think they could honestly compete with St. Pierre for the starting position. Reiter I think would have been that person. Now the Komets will have to settle on a goalie to play the odd game.

Read Ft Wayne.com. Bingham says that Frenchy is the number 1 goalie

Hobo-unless St. Pierre gets during during camp, I doubt that anyone will beat him out of the number one job. St. Pierre would have to completly tank camp and I doubt that's going to happen. I can see where he might think he has no competion and therefore not push himself, but he's the number one goalie. The K's also won;t waste another vet spot on a goaltender either so the back up will either have to be a tweener or a rookie and I bet it's a rookie.

ok

Who really has a good goalie combo in the UHL? Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone. Almost always a UHL team has a good goalie and a backup rookie just to fill in the mandatory rookie quo. Just something to think about.

When Missiouri had Tapp and Reiter they were pretty good. The cup champions had a good rookie in Martin and Reyneart. I'm not saying the Komets can't find a good goaltender, I'm saying I think it will be tough to sign one know who they have to sit behind.

I gotta stop arguing so much. It's not even September and my blood pressure is up.

Greg
Tue, 08/22/2006 - 11:06am

probably, he hasn't been on the top of my favorite list for awhile.

Masters won't be back and it has nothing to do with Frenchy. That's all I'm going to say about it so don't ask.

oh blake tell us why please please please....i'm joking...what does anybody know about this morency guy i heard about on the other blog??? anything blake?

Greg

Morency, as I recall,is a pretty tough character that has played in the UHL. Unlike the "goon" he can actually skate a regular shift, but isn't afraid to throw down when needed.

any idea where these people are gettin the ideas about him signing here?

Greg

He played for Bingham I think in the ECHL.

Better find a quality backup goalie. Better yet....find 4 or 5. With the Komet goalies being ran like pilons on a freeway....we might need a few this season.

Morency and Bingham were in Wheeling together at one time. I only remember him playing against us (when in Flint) once and he was going after everyone that night. He can certainly scrap.

Let me tell you what I DO remember about Masters....I remember him making gestures at his defence when he let goals in. I could be wrong at what those gestures were but they looked like a guy who was blaming everyone but himself. If this is the case......

Joseph was not being negative. He was being realistic. The BEST backup the last few years was Cory Campbell who would have had a much more succesful career had he stayed healthy.

So who has HOCKEY NEWS to give to ME?

Greg, you're right about the Tapp/Reiter combo. If I remember correctly Reiter was a rookie at the time and turned out to be a good goalie. And even though I defend St. Pierre alot, don't get me wrong. I would have rather brought in someone who I think is still growing (Reiter) and not at a potential peak in a career. I do think that St. Pierre can win a cup for Ft Wayne however.
Tony-of all the back ups named thus far, Cory Campbell is my favorite choice. I would however like to see the Komets take a chance on a rookie potential especially if this would be Frenchy's last year here.

DNL I think sadly Cory may be at the end of his competitive career. He just can't stay healthy. Sad because even back in his days with the Spitfires, nobody worked harder. He will make a good goaltending instructor one day if he is interested.

Komet's announce today that they have traded KOMET WARRIOR to the city of Chicago for Steve Bartman.

Good Riddens....

Please...no ex-Komet backup goalie retreads. Lets bring in some fresh blood and take our chances. Heck, maybe they will get lucky and find a rookie that works out to be an All-Star and we can make Frenchy the back-up that plays every 20th game or so. Works for me.

Hit, wasn't that very painful for you to mention Pokey Reddick? I think that chapter in Komet Lore and Legend is safely tucked away in the past.....Tony, I don't want to appear totally ignorant, but who is Pat Mazzol?

Tony E
Tue, 08/22/2006 - 3:50pm

Pat Mazolli was a backup goalie on that awful mid 90's team.
