Tailing the Komets

Want an all-star game jersey?

Need a hockey game tonight?

The Federals play Wisconsin in Game 2 of their playoff series at Canlan. Face-off at 7 p.m. Fort Wayne leads best-of-three series 1-0.

Biggest game this year

At least so far, and at least until next weekend (pretty lucky to have all three games at home, too, BTW). You've got the CHL's two hottest teams going head-to-head tomorrow night with a day off beforehand to rest up. What are you expecting from Wichita vs. Fort Wayne tomorrow night?

Plus, how many are going to be paying attention to Evansville at Quad City tonight. HUGE game.

Komets shoot down the Mallards

Get the pun there? Oh, well.

Komets coach Al Sims said this was his team's most complete game since December as Fort Wayne won 7-2, out-shooting the Mallards 41-24. Everybody pitched in offensively as Jamie Milam scored twice, Leo Thomas, Chris Auger, Frankie DeAngelis, Jesse Bennefield and Stephon Thorne once. The line of Thomas, Bennefield and Bobby Chaumont combined for two goals and seven assists. Every forward except Tom Mele had at least one point and he tied for the team lead with five shots on goal.

Komets are dominating

It's 4-1 after two periods, and it really isn't that close. Fort Wayne leads in shots 34-15. Komets are doing whatever they want tonight, and Mallards have no answer. Frankie DeAnglis scored a power-play goal off a nifty Bobby Chaumont back-door pass, and Chris Auger picked the puck off a defenseman's stick skated around front and nailed a beautiful backhand over the shoulder of Mallards' goaltender David McKee who has gotten no help from his teammates.

No Apod tonight

He stayed home tonight to console his wife whose grandfather died in Russia.

A story Brad MacMillan sent me

Another New York Times story about fighting, this one about the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League where Mac played a little. ``I played there in Melfort in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League,'' Mac said. ``Got to love small town Saskatchewan where hockey is life.''

Komets win 4-3, yes in overtime

They are getting pretty good at playing in overtime. Chris Auger threw a shot on net from the wing, and Bloomington goaltender Zane Kalemba knocked it up into the chest of the hard-charging J.M. Rizk who knocked it in.

Komets also got a huge break because Wichita came back from a 4-2 deficit to beat Evansville 8-5.

Still 2-1 after two

Chris Auger's night so far

He's got two power-play goals as the Komets lead 2-1 after the first periods. Fort Wayne had 21 shots on goal. Here's the first one:

Please trust me, you are going to want to take some time to watch this. It's really cool, especially with the Legends game coming up next weekend.
