Tailing the Komets

O'Connor suspended indefinitely

The final determination to be made on number of games once medical documentation is sent to the league later today.  He is definitely out for Wednesday's game.

No news yet on the Komets' asking the league to review Les Reaney's hit later on O'Connor.

I agree completely GM.

I'm pretty sure that if O'Connor was coming across the face (lateral) of Menei, his right shoulder could make contact with Menei's chin.

The target doesn't matter, where the contact was made does and that was a shoulder. Like I said on the CHL forum, physics would not allow his body to spin like that if he was hit in the head. The amount of force needed would break his neck. You can't argue science.

100% clean open ice hit to the shoulder, no if's, and's, or but's about it. The CHL blew yet another suspension which seems to be the going rate for this year.

Yes it would be 100% clean hit 5 years ago, but today is 2011 and there are rules that prevent hits like this.

SO many holes in your theories, Steve...

Thats your opinion... you would think differently if that was Chaulk or any other Komet laying on the ice.

No actually I wouldn't. A clean hit is a clean hit regardless of who it's on....While Im sure you laugh at that and say no way, it's the absolute truth.

The CHL are a bunch of jokers.

Seriously.

No way that this should be a suspendible hit.

No Way!!!

I watched the video over and over, and in slow motion. OC circle in front of him and it appears he made contact with his back to the Rush players shoulder.

I have seen far worse hits all year long that never crossed anyone's minds of anything more than hockey.

The Christian elbow to our All Star Defenseman carried no suspension and it concussed him for what....longer than a month???

The CHL blew this once again.

Reaney deserves as much or more than what OC gets.

I think this league is biased.

Lay it all out

Ok, my 2 cents.....

1. Komets fans are peeved because we have seen 2-3 suspendable hits in our barn go unpunished that were equally as bad...

2. No word on a Reaney suspension as of yet...

3. this is playoff hockey...

My question is this: Can anyone ever remember the league state publicly that they were waiting on medical information to determine the final length of a suspension? To me this is garbage.....

My comment is this.... I dont think Rapid City has had pro hockey all that long, so we have to remember that this type of overprotection of players is all their fans have ever known... We've had hockey for Decades and have seen much worse, especially in the playoffs.

For the last time. Ref got it right on a no call. OC did not touch his head. He was in front of him. Ridiculous suspension.

Komets should honor Mike Leake tomorrow night with "Steal a Tee Shirt Night" tomorrow.

As for all of this, suspensions in hockey have been inconsistent from the NHL on down. Honestly I think the OHL does the best job at handing out discipline but even they get it wrong sometimes.

Until they come out with a clear black and white list that says
"If you do "X" you are suspended for "X" games" then this will continue year after year. There will always be situations that deserve suspension that won't be on that list but if you have a list that covers the typical headshots, stick abuse etc then at least it makes it easy to hand out consistent suspensions in those areas. And most important perhaps, have a tiered suspension protocal for multi time offenders.
Start with...
"If you hit a player in the head you are suspended 5 games"
"If you do the above and it is a second offense 10 games"

Set guidelines. Period.

I got a idea, let's quit all the bickering between fans and play hockey. What is in the past can't be changed. Let's move forward and may the best team win.

So.....if a player never sees the hit because he's skating with his eyes on his toes not paying attention like any 10 year old pee wee knows not to do, then it's a bad hit? OK....and since when in hockey does any player have "plenty of time to make a decision"?? What game are YOU watching, Steven??
