Komets

News from Friday

The Komets just picked up forward Daniel Goneau from the hospital in Quad City and are on their way home. He's out indefinitely with a broken cheekbone suffered when he was hit in the face with a shot halfway through the first period. Komets trainer Shawn Dundon said Goneau will meet with an ear-nose-and throat specialist early next week and may need surgery.

The Komets also played with only five defensemen because Mike Dombkiewicz had to sit out with a sore back.

Live from radio rinkside

Brendan Savage from the Flint Journal wrote a story about Bob Chase for the Hockey News recently and published it today in his paper. You can check it out here.

As usual, Brendan does a great job.

Also, Tim Clark (better known as FWKRTJ) has done a story about Pascal Morency for Pro Hockey News.com here.

Want to win some tickets?

Fort Wayne Newspapers marketing is running a promotion to give away four Komets tickets to a home game each week. A coupon will be in the Sports section every Tuesday from Nov. 7 through Dec. 26.

The reader must clip it out, fill it out and send it in to be eligible for the weekly drawing. No photocopies accepted. It must be on original newsprint.

And you'll also remember that Tuesday is my big feature day so you'll all want to buy the paper that day anyway, right? I said, right?

McWhinney likely to play

I just got off the phone with Pat Bingham, and this is what he had to say about the possibility of Dan McWhinney getting some PT this weekend:

``I would think so. When you look at the schedule, that's sort of
what's in your mind. Everything is subject to change and you make gameday decisions, but
I think this will be Dan's opportunity see some action this weekend.''

This is for Hit

Don't let Stanley Cup collect
dust

Since the NHL won't be needing it this year, wouldn't it be
fantastic if hockey's top minor league teams could compete for the historic
hardware?

This is always fun to talk about

The Intotheboards ranking of the top 20 Class AA minor league hockey teams can be found here.

Agree, disagree?

Bruce Ramsay's Muskegon team is No. 2, Kevin Kaminski's Youngstown team is No. 4 so congrats to them as well.

Hot off the press

Today's story about the Komets' with NHL experience and dreams starts here.

And a story about former Komet Doug Teskey who is now working in sales for Elmira starts here.

Hope you enjoy them.

Tomorrow's story

Is about what it's like for players to come back through the minors after playing in the NHL. Daniel Goneau and Mario Larocque were particularly interesting about this. A lot of times it's just circumstances.
