No matter who shows up on the transactions page now, Komets General Manager David Franke isn't guaranteeing anyone a roster spot.
``We're going to have more good kids in training camp so there will be genuine competition for jobs this year,'' Franke said. ``Just because you have signed, there are going to be people looking for your job so you have to be ready to go. That makes for competition in training camp and brings out the best in everybody.''
The one thing we have to have is scoring on all three lines. We can't get it done with two line scoring and a checking line. Everybody has to chip in whether in a big way or a litle way. When we've been successful in the past, we've had offense from all three lines.''
Quick hits:
On Franke DeAngelis: Should know something by early next week.
Nothing new on Simon Mangos
Not talking with Brent Henley.
Hope to have the schedule ready to go mid-week next week.
Not sure on Apod right now. He's vacationing in Turkey. Sounds like Komets ahve cooled on
Offer out to both Molle and his brother.
``We probably are talking to at least two dozen players right now minimum that we're going to know something one way or the other in a week or two.''

Mighty.....just entertaining us?
or
Are you giving us some information?
OK, mightbite. I've tried to defend you with your predicted announcements for over a year. Especially when you were defending your past predicted signings (of which I paid a lot of attention to). Now I'm real confused.
I give you props for your past posts, defend you when you are stung by criticism, encourage you when others have made you angry enough that you wanted to stop your posts, and now I need to know what the heck you are talking about.
You posted that we will like the signings announced. I asked if any would be a real sniper. You said No, OC, Thomas, and Curadeau. Later you said No, OC, Thomas and #94. Then you say "no #29.no # 44, no # 94. These guys will not be on the Komets." The implication was ( with the comma placed where you put it) no sniper but OC, Thomas, and Curadeau.
What gives?
He told us Frankie D is the next announcement.
I am just curious if he is hinting Alex Penner.
Fighters, we need fighters
See this is stressful, I say Franke D. to Komets.
Thomas,O'Connor,Curadeau will not be on the Komets.
I agree with Burgee :)
PLease, Please , do not agree with Burgee. He is out of the country and they may not let him back in the country. I know you mean well but he doesn't handle that stuff very well.
Just a reminder to those who are thinking of becoming a season ticket holder or to those who still owe money on their tickets.
Early bird savings deadline is Friday, July 29th.
As of 10am the 27th, two days before the deadline, and still no snipers announced.
Whats the infatuation with having a sniper annouced? Does any team have one annouced at this time? It's july people, relax and enjoy the summer. I know I am. GO KOMETS
I agree with Mark21, they could announce a sniper, season starts and they get injured or they are ineffective. It's early and there's plenty of people out there this year.
Anyone could get hurt at any time in any sport. Teams need to be proactive and not reactive. If you wait too long, those players will be gone (to another team) and we would be complaining about it for the entire next season. Just because it is the end of July does not mean you have all the time in the world. Lets get the job done; now.
Maybe they are talking to those players or have offers out, once that happens. It's a waiting game now. They just can't annouce a sniper to annouce one.
Why not?
LOL
Sniper? I didn't know Stallone played hockey?
DeAngelis signing just announced. Gary Graham also returns as Assistant Coach.
I told you so :)
Komets are talking to a fighter :) some will like him IF he signs.
dschebig: they tried to keep me out of the country once.
Mightbite he certainly isn't going to help in the scoring area that everyone wants.
is it Penner?
DeAngelis, Milam and Cescon as D-men, Chaulk, LaPointe, Auger, Smith and Schrock up front and Boucher in goal. If you ask me not a bad start to the roster. I kinda like how its coming together so far. I didn't put Drouin in there because somehow I just don't see him making the team unless he gets faster and shows some fire.
I agree....good start....this all depends on who they sign to score goals up front.
We have 2 guys who can fire the puck from the blueline, we need some guys who can camp out around the net and clean up the garbage.
And if Drouin is on the team, he can fire from the blue-line on the powerplay.
Would love to know who they have in mind up front still.
at least 2-3 more guys need to be added, and those 2-3 need to be goalscorers.....if not, this thing falls flat on its face IMO.
We are basically looking to replace Curadeau, Lardner, and OC. I think Smith is Leo's replacement.
Those 3 I mention, were all supposed to be the firepower up front last season.
Up-to-date Lines:
Chaulk, &&&&, &&&&
Smith, Drouin, &&&&
Lapointe, Schrock, Auger
Mele, McIlrath
Frankie, Cescon
Milam, &&&&
&&&&, &&&&
Boucher, &&&&
In camp: Trottier
Needs: 3 wingers (2 topliners, 1 2nd liner), 3 D-men, 1 Goalie, 1 heavyweight tough-guy.
I don't love Colt King, but I say take a shot at him.
Nevermind.....Colt King has signed in England
http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/ice-hockey/finner_calms_the_fear_1_3575904
Needs.....1 power forward, 2 stay at home defenseman, 2 defensive forwards, 1 shooting wing, 1 decent backup goalie
1-2-3 fighters =see me & Burgee agree.
Well one of us thinks the Komets only need one scoring forward this coming year.
Defensive Forwards: Chaulk, Smith, Schrock, Auger......LaPointe sort of considered Defense first---faceoff guy.
Goal Scorers: Schrock had 15, Chaulk had 10 in 39 games, PC had 14, Smith had 20, Lapointe had 6, Auger had 14.....
The Molles will be 2 solid defensive blue liners.
We need 3 solid topshelf wingers to replace Lardner, OC, and Curdy.
I look for Bloomy & QC to be much more physical this year.
Blake, I posted a response to Mark21's comments around 5:30pm yesterday. It never showed up. Did it go to spam?
The Frankie DeAngelis signing is very, very welcome. It will be fun to watch him and Jamie Milam on the same team. The defense is shaping up nicely and will be complete with the signings of two or three stay at home, block the shot, clear the crease, and make the first pass "crisp" type of defensemen.
The offense is a whole other story and one that needs most of the attention from the front office.
Fact: Before any signings were announced, Al Sims admitted that last year's offense was a glaring weakness and the Komets needed to find players who could put the puck in the net.
Fact: The Komets only scored 187 goals last season. It was third worse in the entire league. In fact every Berry Conference team scored more goals than the K's. The only teams with fewer "goals for" were Quad City with 186 and Evansville with 181.
Fact: The Komets have signed nine players with CHL experience ( don't count Boucher or Mele ). Of these nine, the total goals scored by them is 108. If you take away defensemen DeAngelis (11g), Milam (17g), and Cescon (1g) you show that the forwards had only scored 79 goals.
Just for the sake of contrast, Kalamazoo signed three players the other day who totaled 91 goals last year in the ECHL.
I don't have too much of a problem with any individual player that has signed. However when you put the whole puzzle together, some large pieces are missing.
Except for a young goaltender, the above mentioned defensemen, the Komets should have a pretty good idea where they stand as far as the salary cap is concerned.
Ask yourself this question: What would you like to see as a reasonable "goals for" average this season? Lets use, say, a 3.50 goals for average for example. That would mean a total of 231 goals. Last year the goals for average was 2.83. What would have been the consequences scoring 44 more goals during the 66 game season? That would require speculation by each of us, for sure. I don't think anyone could argue it would've been better, though. With the players signed so far this year the goals for average would be 1.64!!
Using the above analysis and facts, does anyone not believe they don't need some snipers now??
To me, the above statistics are shocking. It should be priority #1 and I would hope that some positive news will follow soon.
In the above post it should have read I don't think anyone could argue it would not have been better, though" instead of the "would've been" I typed. (Third paragraph from the bottom, second from the last sentence). I apologize for my mistake. I typed this in haste.
I need to look for a Jimmy Bonneau jersey :)
