Tailing the Komets

Falling apart -- again

The Komets are trailing Elmira 5-0 during the first preiod tonight and there's still about five minutes remaining. The Jackals have the five goals on 16 shots against Jeff Deslauriers so far.

Brett Smith has a concussion and did not make the trip, and Nick Schaus has a lower-body injury and is also in Fort Wayne.

Norfolk releases Rizk

The Norfolk Admirals have released forward Jean-Michel Rizk to a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO). He'll be in the Komets' lineup tonight.

Nycholat placed on waivers

From a Komets press release

The Komets announced today that defenseman Daniel Nycholat has been placed on waivers.

Nycholat, 23, scored two goals and 18 points in 60 games this year with the Komets.  2012-13 was his first full pro season after appearing in four games last year with Las Vegas in the ECHL.

WANE's Wednesday video

Komets are out of the playoffs

Since one of the TV guys called Justin and I into question (as if this was our first rodeo) about this, here's how it works. No, it wasn't the folks I work with every week, either.

The Komets are 10 points down to Toledo with five games remaing. The best the Komets can do is win all five games and tie.

But they lose the tiebreakers, which would be:

1. Wins, regular season (excluding shootout wins)

Reading's short-handed goal

Now it's 6-0

Reading has three power-play goals. Six goals on 10 shots. They scored two goals in 12 seconds and then scored two in 42 seconds. The Komets' record for goals against in a period is seven done three times.

I've never seen anything like this in all the years I've been covering the team.

Well, that's ugly

Reading scores five goals on its first nine shots and leads 5-0. Royals' D are beating Ks F down the ice for wide-open shots, and Komets D is getting toasted. Reading is so much faster than FW.

here's an example of where the two teams are. Reading just added a pair of AHL players today. The Komets' last two additions are junior players. Boys against men.

Amazing how good the Royals look.
