Many of you may have heard of Ryan Christian, the daughter of long-time minor league player Jeff Christian, who was an inspiration to many for her battle against cancer. Her dad played against the Komets in the old IHL, mostly with Cleveland, and two years ago in the CHL with Evansville. Ryan died today at age 10 after fighting the disease for several years. I believe Ryan was also very good friends with Kevin St. Pierre's daughter Abby.
God Bless you, Ryan, and your family.
Former Komet Bobby McNeil, 79, died Thursday in a Toronto hospital after an unsuccessful recent battle with brain cancer. McNeil regularly visited Fort Wayne to participate in opening-night ceremonies and play in alumni games. A native of Timmons, Ontario, the right wing played 52 games with the Komets in the 1954-55 season, scoring nine goals and 22 points with 67 penalty minutes.
