The border war

A little more than three years ago, Victor Davis Hanson wrote something called "Mexifornia," and he caught a lot of grief from the open-borders crowd for his insensitivy, though he observed that some solution for the illegals already here had to be found other than mass deportation. These days, he says, the grief he gets over the book is from the middle and right. What happened?

While there remains controversy over amnesty and a guest-worker program, there is now little disagreement over first enforcing the law and closing the borders - whether through periodic fortification, more Border Patrol officers, tough employer sanctions or viable identification cards.

In the last three years, while I haven't changed my views about the need for an earned-citizenship program or the impracticality of deporting 11 million illegal residents, an angry public has passed "Mexifornia" by. Once caricatured as illiberal for calling for an end to illegal immigration, the book now reads as middle of the road, if not passe.

Indeed, if extremists continue to demonstrate for open borders, blare out ethnic and linguistic chauvinism, and flout the law, then this current public anger against illegal immigration will unfortunately appear mild in comparison to what is on the horizon.

That strikes me as true. The seething anger over illegal immigration in a broad cross-section of "middle America" has been one of the most underreported stories in the last several years, and it's not going away. I've seen evidence of it in the recent campaign ads and statements of Rep. Mark Souder. He's always been both sympathetic to President Bush's desire to create a "path for citizenship" and cognizant of the need to better protect the borders. When we talked to him in the spring before the primary, he spoke at length about the illegals already here. Today, he talks almost exclusively about the border -- a sign, I suspect, that he's heard his constituents loudly and clearly.

And it's really not that complicated. It's only complicated if you're a businessman who benefits from the continued import of cheap labor, or if you're a politician in the pay of those businessmen.

It's this simple: what kind of citizens do we want? Do we want to grant citizenship to people who have already shown nothing but contempt for our laws, not simply by coming to our country illegally (or illegally over-staying legal visits), but also by perpetrating frauds (buying false IDs, and stolen social security numbers) against us?

That should be enough. These are not the kind of people we want as citizens.

But then consider that 5 billion people in the world are poorer than the average Mexican (who make up a large perecentage of the illegals). Do we have an obligation to take in them, too? Well, if we don't have the right to keep out Mexicans who want a better life, what gives us the right to keep out the Rwandans and Bolivians and Poles and Bangladeshis who want a better life?

Consider, too, that many Americans are deeply uncomfortable that our population is approaching the 300 million level. In just 30 years the population has increased by 50%, driven largely by immigration, legal & illegal. How many of us want 50% more roads, less farm land and open space, more children in our classrooms, longer lines at the BMV?

The problem is that our economic system is predicated on a fallacy

I feel physically sick that the senate passed a loop hole in the Fence bill making it optional, and delayed till a complete overhaul of immigration is complete. In other words a poison pill.
I've been voting for Republicans to keep out Democrats who are for Illegal Immigration, High Taxes, and Big Spending, but it looks like the only thing the Republican were good on is taxes. Stopping illegal immigration was the one issue that was going to keep me voting for them, even after the Foley scandal that makes me want to clean everyone out, because I thought A Democrat win would mean open illegal invasion because they like it when Illegal aliens vote, and oppose any checking at Polling places to see if someone is a citizen before they vote. This is still true, but now I realize the Senate Republicans are an obstacle to illegal immigration that needs to be voted out.

Unfortunately, it looks like the lobbyists for the Big illegal alien hiring companies, who support Republicans campaign financially got their pay off over the little guy again. This loop hole was passed to get wavering Republicans on board.
Well I say we find out who these wavering republican are,(probably Mel Martinez, McCain), who poisoned the bill are, and have them recalled or voted out.

I've been a lifelong Republican and feel so betrayed. First NAFTA, then Chinese Trade Policies, and now this. But I'm still not going to vote democrat. I don't want the democrats to think that they suddenly have support for their Destroy American Culture policies. No I'm going to vote for a 3rd party. Yeah it may end up winning the Office for a dem, but at least he will not be confused at why he won, and might be more measure on his amnesty aspiration to replace American culture with a Hispanic one.

I love Mexicans and Mexican people. I just don't want to be overrun by them, and have to pay all their family's medical, and education bill at the expense of the medical and education of the kids that are here.

They come here and trash our country. The tons of garbage and piles of human fecies
they leave on the border is astronomical.
Illegal Aliens commit 9000 murders in this country a year! Hello people.

9000 less murders a year we would have if we deported them all. If these limp noodle politician don't have the stomach to deport them ALL, them let's deport these scum bag traitor politicians out of office, by voting them out based on their stance on illegal immigration.

This issue is THEE most important issue, because if we don't expel them now, they will have enough number to launch their planned reconquista attacks. Just look at what they're saying at these La Raza rallies. La Raza mean the race, and they have a NAZI attitude about white, laugh about how we're not breeding fast enough, and salivate for the day when they have enough number through illegal immigration to take over.

This will happen around 2050 if these Senate Republicans who join democrats have their way. Our grandchildren will be the one who will be killed when these civil wars start.

Please put America first and vote anyone who is for Amnesty or Comprehensive reform, which is semantics for Amnesty. If you don't bend over and kiss this country good bye.
