McDonald's is testing a bigger burger, which should get the obesity crowd buzzing:
The Chicago Tribune said the new Third Pounder is currently available only in about 600 restaurant locations in Southern California. At one-third of a pound, the burger is the biggest on the McDonald's menu at outlets where it is being tested.
It is also the most expensive sandwich, priced at $3.99, the paper said.
Pikers. Hardee's Thickburger -- an awesome sandwich -- has three sizes, one-third pound, half a pound, two-thirds pound.

Reminds me of the burger back in Philly at a "sitdown formal" restaurant called H.A. Winstons (downtown)...actually it was more like a MEATLOAF on a damn bun!
And they had about TEN different versions...(swiss/mushrooms - pizza sauce/ mozzarella -cheddar/ bacon...you get the idea) all for about $5!!
Went down real nice with a cold Heineken!
Believe me, they were worth it...even in the 1970s!
AND..they were REAL MEAT (done to order).

You know, for years Fort Wayne had been a test market for all types of "new" products from new soft drinks to lawnmowers. Not so much anymore though.
McDonalds probably talked to it's franchise owners in Fort Wayne and were dissuaded from offering it here until Doc Crawford and the rest of your babysitters are out of office.
My guess is a 1/3 pound burger would have required at least a couple new ordinances.
Thank God you have them looking out for your best interest.
Don't forget that during Fort Wayne's culinary dark ages, quantity was valued over quality, as demonstrated by all of the all-you-can-eat buffets we used to see around here featuring cold scrambled eggs and hard bacon for brunch.
We should always require quality in new menu items over quantity, if we hope to continue to receive the higher quality food offerings. If we settle for less, be assured we will be shipped inferior product.
Let me not fail to add, it's STILL hard to beat Hall's Chicago Burger, and even harder to beat the historically significant six-burgers-with-onions platter at Powers. And I'd still rather have Coney Dogs on Main Street than a bigger burger from McD's ANY ol' day. No contest.

PS: Want real coney foot-longs? You'll have to go to NYC at Nathans...all beef (and get the either the kraut and onions or chili and onions) They got it down to a SCIENCE there...
