Those Canadians really know how to handle scofflaws:
Jon Tennett loves to tinker in his garage. It's not an uncommon pastime for an 81-year-old man, but what is unusual is the city's response.
Because Tennett fixes his neighbours' lawn mowers and other small machines, the City of Pickering has charged him with operating an illegal business - even though he's never charged a penny for his work.
[. . .]
But Pickering's commercial zoning bylaws do not allow any form of home business whatsoever - and the penalties are severe.
Tennett's case is currently before the courts and if he loses, he could be fined up to $25,000.
Wish there was a guy like that on my block.

Leo, you have a lawn mower ? I'm shocked, ...
I would hope his attorney demands that the prosecutor's wife be charged with operating a restaurant by cooking supper, that the prosecutor himself be charged with public indecency for taking a shower, if the prosecutor has children, that it be taken as prima facie evidence that the prosecutor's wife is a prostitute.
Wow, I tinker with stuff all the time. My eleven year old brings mowers, weedwackers and other junk home to take apart. I am waiting for the day he can actually put them back together and work.
