Comics relief

Has anyone else stopped reading the comics pages? I used to read them regularly. There were two or three each in the morning and evening papers that I followed. I don't know if says something about me or something about the comics, but It occurred to me this week that I haven't even looked at them in at least two or three years.

Aside from GARFIELD...it's just a wasteland!

I sort of lost interest when I realized that great comics like Calvin & Hobbes and The Far Side had come and gone while "Family Circus" not only remained, but kept getting published.

I stopped when "The Far Side" stopped, and had already stopped looking at anything else when "The Far Side" was brand new. Loved its sensibility. There's been nothing like it since.

At one time I drew and wrote comics myself and seriously contemplated looking to be published. I used to maintain that I only served as editor of the Universal Studios company newspaper so that I could publish my comic strip in it, which was, to some extent, probably true.

I like the form a lot and would work in it again, but I no longer need to read the other guys' work on Sundays. I still note the editorial page cartoon, but an awful lot of those seem to be liberal low blows these days.

I have nothing against the family oriented stuff whether it's Family Circus or Peanuts. They have their warm and fuzzy place in the scheme of comic pages and always will.

Nowadays I do detest the predictable and nasty leftist delusions of Gary Trudeau, and I'm even beginning to wonder about Mr. Breathed.
