Opening Arguments

Fred, Fred, Fred

All those people who referred to City Councilman John Crawford as Hitler for the smoking ban he pushed into existence? Maybe they should have been thinking "Osama":

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Freshly minted GOP White House hopeful Fred Thompson puzzled Iowans yesterday by insisting an Al Qaeda smoking ban was one reason freedom-loving Iraqis bolted to the U.S. side.

"They said, 'You gotta quit smoking,'" Thompson explained to a questioner asking about progress in Iraq during a town hall-style meeting.

Thompson said the smoking ban and terror tactics Al Qaeda used to oppress women and intimidate local leaders pushed tribes in western Anbar Province to support U.S. troops.

But Thompson's tale of a smokers' revolt baffled some in the audience of about 150 who came to decide whether the former Tennessee senator is ready for prime time.

See there? We ban smoking, and the terrorists win! Many people are comarping Thompson to Ronald Reagan because of his laid-back attitudes. The major difference is that Reagan had a strong set of core beliefs that he had been passionately preaching for decades. Is this the beginning of Fred's set?

Oppression is all the same weather it is from, Al Queda, or people like John Crawford. Freedom loving people do not like to be told what to do in excess.
When i moved here 23 years ago from South Bend, this was such a nice town. Conservative, take care of yourself, and take care of your neighbor when times called for it,"The City That Saved Itself". Now it is a nanny state, citizens and business owners are ignored. City councel meetings are a joke. Hundreds of people show up to voice their opinions to no avail...the vote was decided long ago at the country club. The meeting is a mere formality to give Kieth Edwards and Charlie Butcher something to talk about in the morning.
It really dosen't matter what the issue is at stake the result is all the same, it is not just the smoking ban or Harrison Square or the sign ordance they have their minds made up and that is that, they do not give a damm what you think, they take their marching orders from the special intrest groups and the big construction companys that now drive things in this town. The construction companys favored (and financed) canidates for the school board elections and the 500 million school bond issue should be proof enough of thier undue infulence on the electorial precess.
Now is the time to take back our city, and make it ours again. these people must be driven from office.
