After a great deal of thought, I have also decided not to run for City Council next year. Though the landscape is littered with the names of people who are running or not running for mayor, I do believe I am the first person to declare his intentions in the council race. Perhaps this makes me worthy of some newspaper space and a little TV air time.
Perhaps you wonder about my qualifications. Very well. I have never served in any elective office except to have been an officer on a nonprofit board or two. I have never been involved in politics, except to write about it. Though I have voted regulary, I sometimes haven't known as much about the candidates as I would have liked. I believe I can say without fear of contradiction that, of all the people who will not be running for council, I am among the most qualified to sit out the race.
I thank you for your support. If you send me an e-mail request, I will be more than happy to tell you the issues I will not be taking a position on and the positions I will not be taking on them.
