Gasbags

Do you trust these people to, a) know what questions to ask and, b) understand the right answer if they hear it?

State lawmakers want some answers about gasoline prices.

A commission made up of Indiana House and Senate members plans to hold a hearing at the Statehouse Wednesday to examine gasoline pricing policies in Indiana.

[. . .]

Leaders in the Indiana House and Senate requested that the commission take up the gas price issue. Commission chair Peggy Welch, a Democrat from Bloomington, said pump prices seem to change on an hourly basis and can vary wildly between nearby gas stations.

The legislators forgot to use either of their favorite pejoratives --  "windfall profits" or "price gouging" -- so it made their hearing sound more like what it will really be: posturing and meddling. Prices at gas stations vary wildly and the price is likely to change hourly? Horrors. Let's get some state officials at work setting the "right" price that must be charged by all. Maybe we can get the folks who came up with the school funding forumla to do it.
