Opening Arguments

The great divide

Well, of course they are:

Democratic legislative leaders are criticizing Republican Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller for joining 13 other states in challenging the nearly $1 trillion federal health care overhaul.

Indiana House Speaker Pat Bauer of South Bend and Senate Minority Leader Vi Simpson of Bloomington say joining the litigation wastes taxpayer dollars at a time when the state is cutting its funding to schools.

The few thousand dollars the suit will cost the state are meaningless when we're talking about millions being cut from schools and the billions represented by health care reform. But as Democrats, Bauer and Simpson are almost obligated to take any swipe they can at a Republican who dares challenge reform. That's no more suprising than the fact that all the states but one in the suit are led by Republicans. This is one of those issues (photo IDs for voters is another one) on which we just have to accept the fact that there is a gigantic partisan divide and make up our own minds anyway.

But why file a suit when 13 other states have done so already? He is making the same argument- so the ruling that comes out of the EXISTING suit would apply to Indiana as well.

It really is a waste of resources.

My guess (simple minded as it may be) is that it's not like a class action kinda thing, but a challenge to the law as it pertains to ones (a.g.) own state?

Just a hunch...

Masson, we need ya here buddy! Paging Doug Masson!!

Kevin Knuth is correct. This is an excellent opportunity for Gov. Daniels to outsource, and save our states resources in the process.
