A libertarian view of the nanny state -- persuasion is better than coercion:
I'm sometimes frustrated, as an opinion journalist, by readers who are confused by any argument more complicated than a one-sentence slogan. But there's something to be said for the simple, obvious message, repeated over and over and over until it penetrates even the thickest skull. And I have to admit that the fact that we're now a nation of seat belt-wearing nonsmokers owes far more to annoying, heavy-handed public service announcements than to even the most cleverly argued polemic.
