Since this is the Christmas shopping season, don't retailers realize that if they ever succeeded in separating Christmas from the shopping there might be no compelling reason to shop?
This isn't intended as some debating point.
It is beginning to look to me as though it may be possible to reach a critical mass in which 80% of Americans will begin to accept the idea that shopping isn't tied to Christmas, and finally say, "You know, all that shopping was an expensive, tiresome chore anyway. Let's just visit family, eat well, and maybe go to church." Or something similar.
