The obvious point is made that, having a record he must defend, Gov. Daniels can't just rely on his RV-tour gimmick during his next campaign:

The governor's problem is that he has done just what he said he would do -- shake the state up. That upsets people. Angry voters tend to stay that way, and many of the benefits from Daniels' changes are either down the road (toll road-funded construction projects) or not immediately obvious (DST).
The article also says that "the 2008 governor's race may come down to which side does best at getting their message out." Gee, do ya think?

That sonofabitch knows he's a one-term governor. He'll go retire on the kickbacks he was promised for the Toll Road lease. Just you wait.
Then again, if enough thinking people vote,he may just get re-elected.
Having vision and the ability to see the big picture doesn't sit well with a lot of complacent hoosiers. It's much simpler for them to bitch about what they don't understand than to actually admit they're not smart enough to comprehend Mitch's plans. The toll road was a no-brainer, but you'd have thought the world was coming to an end. Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees.

Finally, a governor who did something, waited for years for someone to do something and I don't understand people like Alex at all. Or Jill Thompson, who do best at running AGAINST something. This 19th century mentality here, UHHHHH!
I comprehend Mitch Daniels' plans fully, as do most people. He's selling off our future earnings to enrich his cronies in the short-term. The only vision he has is one of dollar signs. Like you, Tim, he mistakenly thinks Hoosiers are complacent and stupid and that's why he's been so brazen about robbing them.
Ok, Alex,I'll bite. I just can't resist. What future earnings exactly, are you now going to have to live without? I guess you had plans for that slab of concrete and forgot to fill us in?
Dave, One of the funniest things about the whole toll road lease was, the concept of leasing an asset that's become costly to maintain, just didn't sink in with a lot of folks,(see above) and I never understood how a state full of farmers, (who have been leasing their ground out for profit for CENTURIES to other people to grow crops on and make a buck on LONG TERM LEASES) couldn't grasp the concept.
