Opening Arguments

A small contradiction

There is this, on the opinions of Hoosiers:

Consistent with the 2003-2005 surveys, a majority of residents rated schools highly: 65 percent of respondents rated schools in their district as excellent or good and 56 percent gave such ratings for overall state education.

And there is this, reality:

Indiana has 15 high schools where fewer than half the students graduate, and many of those schools are located in poor areas, according to new data released yesterday by the state Department of Education.

[. . .]

The Department of Education had previously released the statewide average graduation rate, which showed that about 74 percent of students graduate within four years, and an additional 1.8 percent graduate after four years.

This does not compute.

No one called me to survey me on this but you are exactly right Leo-the numbers don't match up. I think making parents more accountable and allowing teachers to discipline students again would make a difference. There are alot of misinformed people out there.

We're still using that "new math" right? That would explain the discrepancies REAL well!

;)

BTW...Laura...you are 100% correct with what SHOULD be done (again)...!
