Time to scale down

I've been thinking about a smaller house. I've been divorced for about seven years now but still live in the house we shared. It's too big and too old (I'm no Mr. Fix-it), so I've been thinking about something smaller and newer and on one level instead of two. Turns out I'm part of a national trend:

Diane Ramirez, president of Halstead Property, has seen downsizing pick up steam in recent months, especially among suburbanites in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

"Homeowners are probably sensing now may be the right time to get the best price before the market cools further," Ramirez said. "Some of these homebuyers are empty-nesters now finding their homes are larger than what they need and more than they can handle."

Many people with big houses (including me) actually live in only small portions of them. The rest is just for clutter.

Been there;done that - just about a year ago. It has been great. I finally managed to do it after 32 years in a great south side home where I had raised my children. And I managed to stay south and not go north!

Leo:

You can be part of the mass migration downtown that our elected officials promise us is coming!

OR...you "could" move into MY neighborhood, into one of several houses that have NOT been rented out or sold (yet)...and not only keep THEM from becoming the next local eyesore...but also help keep the usual locals OUT of the area.

Hey, some of us need all the help we can get (and it sure ain't coming from any CITY agency, that's for sure)!

My mother is in the process of moving to a smaller house as well.

I asked her if she would consider moving to downtown Fort Wayne...

She laughed at me.

She is going to move up north...

Has it occurred to any of the downtown promoters that maybe they should just move downtown north? Ha Ha... too late now...

Sorry for the double post... Actually, if you had to choose a true center point of our "metropolis" what would it be and for what reason? I would choose Lima and 69 because you can get there in under 15 minutes from the many parts of the town and from the outskirts quickly...
