I know I've been a hysterical scaremonger over the stimulus bill, so let me be an adult about this and admit that I've been completely wrong about the whole thing:

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said the plan would put Americans back to work in a fiscally responsible way by spending less than a House-passed bill proposed and putting more people back to work than the Senate-approved bill would have.
And I thought they were going to approve something in the $800 billion-plus range. I should have realized that with thoughtful, responsible Republicans like Collins and Olympia Snow and Arlan Specter, Congress would get the figure down to a fiscally responsible $789 billion. That's a mere 94 percent of the original Senate plan -- what brave little budget hawks they are!

When the bill was first introduced to the Senate, the GOP Senators released a list of what they called "wasteful spending"
It totaled about $20 Billion- less than 3% of the total bill.
however, the spun it like it was ALL pork. That is why I never doubted that the bill would pass- the rest is just GOP posturing.
GOP posturing or not Kevin, it's nothing more than one huge pork-filled bankruptcy inducing piece of crap. But the good news is the folks get a tax break from June until of the year that gives them a whopping $13.00 a week more in increased take home pay!!!!! Wowsers, what will America do with all that dough?????

By conservative estimates, we have now passed $800 billion in spending on the Iraq war, which still drags on at $16 billion per month. We have done a nice job of building schools, bridges, roads, and utility infrastructure projects in Iraq. It's high time we spend some money on schools, bridges, roads, and utility infrastructure in THIS country. I'd rather spend money on a polar ice-breaking ship than bribing war-lords in Masul.
Where was the hue and cry last year when the $150 billion Bush stimulus package (tax rebates) was passed last year on almost unanimous approval by both houses of congress? That was a whopping $500 or $10 per week (wowsers!) I don't remember bloggers bragging about sending their rebate checks back to Washington...
