A venemous climate

This is priceless. 14-year-old Julia Wilson has a Web page expressing her anger at the president, which includes the words "Kill Bush" along with a photo-collage showing a cartoon dagger stabbing the president's hand. This, naturally, leads to a visit from the Secret Service. How does her father react? Not, as you might expect, with embarrassment at his daughter's over-the-top behavior. He finds the reaction to it over the top:

Her husband said the public reaction reflects the country's "venomous" political climate.

"It's very disappointing and it's a sign of the times," Moose said. "The political discourse in the country is so vicious. There's no serious debate."

That's one of the troubles of the internet...accountability. And this young girl found out that even though you might "disagree" with the Commander-in-Chief, there is a place and time to do so, and online might not be the best venue to vitriolically assault someone. The office (of President) alone demands that we view it with a certain level of respect.

It reminds me of a time when the corner BAR was the place where if you discussed politics, it could get you some dental work (gratis), or (conversely) some sympathizers, as long as the brews kept coming.

But what was said in the bar (ususally) stayed in the bar, unlike the internet...

It's all about ramifications, folks!

Sometimes, if you don't have anything NICE to say about someone or something, best to not say ANYTHING AT ALL!
At least that would keep the suits from your front door, wouldn't it?

Damn Bob, I miss those days!

I remarked about a similar situation that happened here in my little community back in the Clinton days, with a mailed letter. The kid got a visit from the secret service too and it scared him s*#@less. He turned out to be a great adult after he grew up. It's not todays political climate as the dad states....it's not a republican thing or a democratic party thing... it's common sense...you even remotely threaten a sitting prez, you are gonna get a visit...
