State Sen. Tom Wyss was quoted recently giving an honest assessment of why Indiana requires seat belts but not motorcycle helmets: Car drivers don't organize, but any legislator who proposes helmet laws will suddenly find scores of motorcycle riders circling his block in protest. Wonder what the senator thinks of this:
WASHINGTON — States should require motorcycle riders to wear proper helmets, government investigators urged today as part of several recommendations that seek to stem a steady rise in motorcycle deaths.
Members of the National Transportation Safety Board unanimously approved the motorcycle safety recommendations, wading into a contentious issue that has pitted motorcycle rights' groups against safety organizations in many states.
If it gets to the point where the feds require helmet laws with the threat of withholding highway funds -- you can see this coming, can't you? -- any bets on how the motorcyclists will fare?

The word "screwed" comes to mind, Leo.

They'll fare as well as us pickup drivers did with the new seat belt laws, thanks to good old "nanny" Wyss (R)
I thought republicans were supposed to be all about personal responsibility? - oh, thats right, when money is involved principle gets tossed out the window.
Wyss IS NOT and WILL NOT be a Republican. He's a freakin' RINO and would make somebody a great mother-in-law. He is an embarrassment to the Republican party.
'any bets on how the motorcyclists will fare?' -- Safer against their will comes to mind.
"He is an embarrassment to the Republican party."
No shortage of those lately ;)
"Wyss IS NOT and WILL NOT be a Republican"
Then why do you righties keep voting him back in all the time?
Perhaps its too much of that straight ticket voting you guys seem to do. ;)
Trust me AJ, it hasn't been me voting for him...
