We can all sleep easy tonight -- the ashtray police are on the job:
PERU — A Miami County commissioner wants a county-wide crackdown on businesses violating state code dictating where cigarette receptacles may be placed after the state issued a complaint saying the Miami County Courthouse was violating the law.
Commissioner Jerry Hamman said the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission issued a complaint to the county, saying ashtrays by the courthouse doors were within the 8-foot area where smoking is prohibited.
I hear that. Stop that snickering. This is serious business! 8 feet is 8 feet, people, not 7 1/2 feet or 7 3/4 feet! The health and well-being of the whole county is at stake. And don't forget the children.
