Strange season

This strangest political season ever just keeps chugging along:

Thousands of outraged Donald Trump supporters have signed a petition to ban Fox News host Megyn Kelly from moderating any future GOP debates.

The petition, which was posted Aug. 7, has since received more than 50,000 signatures.

I honestly do not understand this -- and there are other peititions actually demanding that she be fired. All these Trump supporters are supposedly conservative Republicans, and they're lashing out at a star for Fox News, one of the friendliest environments for conservative Republicans on the planet? On behalf of a circus barker? Yeah, yeah, I know, he's tapping into deeply felt anger at the political establishment. Still . . .

Meanwhile, on the other side of the political divide:

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders has rocketed past longtime front-runner Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire, a stunning turn in a race once considered a lock for the former secretary of state, a new Franklin Pierce University/Boston Herald poll shows.

Sanders leads Clinton 44-37 percent among likely Democratic primary voters, the first time the heavily favored Clinton has trailed in the 2016 primary campaign, according to the poll of 442 Granite-Staters.

This one is a little more understandable. For one thing, the Democrats have moved so far left that nobody can be liberal enough for them. For another, this is 2008 redux: Oh, thank God, somebody besides Hillary! And then, there is anger at the political establishment over there, too. Still . . .

I know this is very early and that all kinds of front-runners have gone on to become ex-candidates pretty quickly. And, too, I think the voters might be just having a little fun with the know-it-all-pundit class, jerking us around just to watch us squirm.

But honestly, it is still the strangest campaign seaon I've ever seen, and I think it's going to keep getting stranger.

I think Tim Russesrt would be enjoying it so much.  It is such a shame he is missiing it.
