I loved National Lampoon, one of my favorites was the cover (which adorned my bedroom door as a pony-tailed teen) with a picture of a VW beetle floating on top of the water and the headline "If Ted Kennedy Drove A VW He'd Be President Today".

Classic...

If I recall correctly, VW sued the Lampoon over that gag. They didn't want to appear overly political, or so they said. I'm guessing they didn't want to offend the young liberals who made the Beetle so popular.
I remember the tiniest subhead in the Lampoon parody was "Japan Destroyed." I still had a copy of that thing until my last move.
Oh well, as Mark Twain (or was it Ben Franklin?) said, three moves are worth a house fire.
