Tailing the Komets

another topic

How many of you are worried about the gas prices this winter possibly affecting your ability to go to Komets' games? Are some of you skipping season tickets because of it? If gas hits $4 per gallon, which kind of changes will you have to make or are you already making?

Oh, I forgot, gas prices are a domestic issue. Never mind.

JungleMonkey does not drink and drive. He does, however drink and shout at Quinten VanHorlick... man I wish that guy would come back to the UHL. Man, hockey season can't get here fast enough. I am in dire need of a walking taco!

In some of my songs I have casually mentioned
The fact that I like to drink beer
This little song is more to the point
Roll out the barrel and lend me your ears

(chorus)
I like beer. it makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer. it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow (makes him feel mellow)
Whiskeys too rough, champagne costs too much, vodka puts my mouth in gear
This little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact I like beer
(he likes beer)

My wife often frowns when were out on the town
And Im wearing a suit and a tie
Shes sipping vermouth and she thinks Im uncouth
When I yell as the waiter goes by

(chorus)

Last night I dreamed that I passed from the scene
And I went to a place so sublime
Aw, the water was clear and tasted like beer
Then they turned it all into wine (awww)

I like beer. it makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer. it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow (makes him feel mellow)
Whiskeys too rough, champagne costs too much, and vodka puts my mouth in gear
Aw, this little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact I love beer
(yes, he likes beer)

Well done Blake. I think that should suffice as the new goal scoring chant...lol.

The part of it all the oil companies are making record profits. Doesn't seem like the price per barrell really affects what the oil companies make, it just seems to make them more. Israel, ALaska, Terror are all just excuses.

Last Saturday while driving across town, the gas prices I saw were as follows:

Coldwater and Washington Ctr. $3.09

Dupont and I-69 $3.17

State and Sherman $2.93

Illinois Rd. $3.05

And they say there is no price gouging...yeah right!!!!!!

Gas prices are reported to be around 3 dollars through the summer, but are expected to plummet to around $2.25ish by fall and early winter according to reports I saw a few days ago by analysts.

Prices range from $3.19 to $3.35 around here. In Detroit in some areas it is reported to be $2.94.

Dont think about it at all, because there is no point in stressing about it...when my season seat is already paid for...will be going regardless!

When Ashley and I were in Iowa last week (and we have noticed this in prior trips there), super unleaded is the same price or cheaper than 87 octane because the super uses 10% ethanol. I don't understand why every state isn't like that. Even more interesting, when we were in Montana, regular unleaded was actually 85 octane! I didn't think any car made in the last 10 years with fuel injection would run well on that.

Well, I'm more worried about getting my school work done and being able to go to the games let alone, the gas prices..you need gas to go places..so your pretty much stuck paying for it..no matter the price..especially for me since i live in Churubusco

All of those times people drove by the Amish in their buggies and thought they were nuts....

Bob

Tony, remember that there are dozens of different blends of fuel to meet the enviromental policies of different regions of the country....of course, that is one of the reasons gasoline is so expensive to produce. As far as the octane rating....I have not seen 85 octane, but 86 used to be common. Thank goodness I can put 87 octane in my 1999 DeVille even though the gauge states "use premium fuel only" I still get 24-28 MPG on the highway averaging about 80 MPH! But, these prices are still getting out of hand!

Bob
Thu, 08/10/2006 - 7:54pm

Also, I'm lucky that we can be to the MC in less than 10 minutes....if traffic cooperates!

Brandon
Thu, 08/10/2006 - 7:59pm

Well, price is actually dropping right and will be looking mighty fine in the morning.

No one is really sure why since everything is saying that it should be going up but hey if they're telling me to call the gas stations and tell me to have them drop the prices, i'm surely not going to ask why. Tomorrow will really be telling a story however. As quick as it's going down, it's looking like it's going to be popping right back up...and then some.

Tony E
Thu, 08/10/2006 - 8:42pm

This would probably be an ignorant question but I will ask anyway lol
They told us in Iowa that they use corn to produce the ethanol to make the gas cheaper...So why doesnt EVERYONE us it? I mean corn is not in short supply in most parts of the country. There is probably a logical (or illogical) answer but I can't figure it out.
As for the octane..yep 85 octane and 75 MPH legally in most areas of Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota! I wouldnt put 85 octane in my lawnmower.

Brandon
Thu, 08/10/2006 - 8:57pm

E-85 is just as expensive to produce as LS #2 Diesel and it lowers your cars MPG. As of RIGHT NOW, there's really no benefit in using 85 besides environmental reasons.

In a few years if they perfect their methods, E-85 may be an excellent, low price alternative. Also, not all cars accept E-85.

I think I read somewhere that even if we went to full production of ethanol it would only account for about 10 percent or less of what we need.

Bob
Thu, 08/10/2006 - 10:43pm

Tony, when you went thru Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota burning the 85 octane was the cost of it lower or higher compared to the rest of your trip? Also, did your car seem to run ok on it? I'm thinking that you might have been running on a more pure gasoline because of those areas being less populated...so the fuel is blended differently for less smog, other enviromental concerns.

Tony E
Thu, 08/10/2006 - 11:34pm

Good late evening Bob.
We didn't use the 85. We used the next level up which was also weird (like 88.5)
We were in a rental car but I didn't want to take a chance of breaking down what with all the fires. As far as less populated, you aren't kidding. We have a photo of a city we drove through that posted a population of FIVE!
When we were in Iowa we filled up with the higher octane ethanol fuel and the car ran fine.

He don't. Sigh.
Let's see, I have other responsibilities besides Komets, maybe? How many people have they had covering Komets this summer, and how many have we had?

It happens. They are good at what they do, too, and Justin is one of the best. I don't find shame in getting beat every once in a while. How many times have I gotten them this summer? I've lost count. LOL.
