Dear everyone: It's "re-signed" not "resigned".

Kinda two very different things.

Brandan you can put that one with the people who confuse loose and lose and kids these days when talking about sports they play asking their coaches "Who are we versing today?" Instead of "who are we playing against?".

Thanks, Snuff. Yea, I understand what you are talking about. It's just that others still brought up the topic, and in fact, you commented on it also. I just thought I'd contribute a little and didn't mean to rile anyone up.

In fact, that is why I posted "Now on to other matters". That was all hockey related and an attempt to put the discussion off the "price" topic.

I've noticed a trend in your postings lately, and forgive me for pointing it out to you, but it seems you've lost your patience when it comes to opinions different than yours. It's up to Blake, when and if, he wants to post another thread. I think anyone should have the right to post anything they want as long as it is respectful.

Snuff: It's not just the kids who haven't the slightest idea of how grammar works. Read newspapers, websites for news stations (local and national), and even some magazines have lots of grammatical mistakes. What makes that even more pathetic is that most of them are professionals who are just too lazy to proofread their work, and some even have editors who still can't catch the mistakes. Society, as a whole, has accepted these mistakes and has even gotten to the point of ridiculing those who call out the mistakes as if they are the bad guys. It's sad how much ignorance is becoming acceptable in our country today. Sorry, the grammar police in me had to come out for a bit.

You can thank blogging, texting, and social sites like Facebook for the downfall of grammar .... IMO

Alan,
I have not run out of patience. A blog isn't something to lose patience over. Had I realized the element of person that posting the comment I would have simply ignored it as I do some others whose posts I skim past without reading. When the poster wants to reduce themselves to that of a playground jester there is no point in trying to have a discussion. Lesson learned.
RK and JR1 both of you are right on the grammar/spelling. I am just as guilty of it in some cases (for instance forgetting to put the - in re-signed.

It seems that there is a much smaller emphasis these days in typing and even speaking correctly. Very sad in some ways.

Wow... a thread on Apod has been hijacked once by a complainer and now we are on grammar. Lol what is next? Oh hey! Did you guys know there was a hurricane out there??? It seems I might have heard something about that somewhere.
WHEW... back to the regularly scheduled program.
Apod...
This is the kind of player I want the Komets to continue to seek out. I hope that he and some of these others pan out so that the Komets continue to feel comfortable bringing in youth instead of rehashing the same bodies year after year.

Agreed, Snuff. I think A-Pod is definitely the type of player we want to continue to see go through the organization. I think it'd be a mistake to cut a developing player loose just because he "didn't do enough" last year. I was always impressed with APod, even if he had room for improvement. Expecting "The Great One" to show up here in his first year is pretty naive IMO.

Mr Snufflupugus
Fri, 08/26/2011 - 1:54pm

RK agree 100%.

A 21 year old has room to grow and improve and there is still time to correct flaws. The same can't be said for the 30+ crowd this team seems to fall in love with sometimes.
Apod is not in his hockey prime yet. If the team and fan base are willing to give him time to develop then you might have a star in the making

Isn't that part of what this league is supposed to be about anyway???

Development of Hockey Players??? The younger players for sure.

I get that AA hockey is a mixed bag because you have to sell it as entertainment, but you also have some responsibility I would think to also improve younger players not only for the betterment of your team and success but also for the opportunity of those players to move up and beyond.

If you can develop good young talent, then you form a pipeline of young players every year getting sent here because the hockey world recognizes that you are doing a great job in the realm.

Right?

So yes, we need a fine mix of players in the CHL. That is for sure.

And I am definitely excited to have APOD back.....great young talent that has upside galore.

I think while everyone is loading up on one-sided (offensive) teams, we're looking at a team to combatant those teams with defense. Instead of playing catch-up with the offense this might be a good situation. And appears we are grasping the developmental aspect. Despite what some of the other teams are doing, I think we'll have a season full of heart, grit, and pride. We'll get a goal scorer or two out of this bunch.

This is the article seeming to cause all the confusion with the 4-6 players.

http://www.news-sentinel.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110614/SPORTS/106140309

He said, "could" and the title of the article had the word "may". I don't think i have to explain the meaning of those words. So i think it's unfair to say franke said he was going to bring 4-6 back tops. It was just a possibility.

I do think Franke has to be smarter about saying those types of things because they can obviously be taken the wrong way.

It seems like people are upset about 2 players coming back. It kind of seems silly to get upset about 2 players.

Chaulk, Boucher, Schrock, Cescon, DeAngelis, Thomas, Drouin, Lapointe, APOD, Molle are our returnees. If you are that upset about Franke not sticking with 4-6, who would you take off? After the obvious 2 that most are upset with, there are some tough decisions. So really, it's not all that bad in my opinion. I think you can put Smith on a line with Thomas and Drouin. For those that think they coast, maybe Smith's work ethic will be contagious.

Even if he did say they were only bringing back 4-6 players, I wouldnt fault him for bringing back 12. I know many times I have said one thing, but my circumstances change and I have to make an adjustment. I would probably be safe in guessing that this has happened to you once in your life.

It's all not this serious, guys. I know that may be hard to realize for bloggers because you make up the 5% of diehards and to be honest I used to be one. But I grew up. Most fans don't think like this and don't take it this seriously. However, every team has that 5% that is just unreasonable at times and will put the tin foil hats on and come up with all kinds of wacky conspiracy theories about ticket prices, players coming back etc. My advice, love your family and friends...like your sports. It's easier that way. Just trying to help. Don't get mad

No biggy.

I am just glad you found that dang article...proves I didn't lose my memory I guess.

They could return all 20 of the players from last year, I don't care. Just as long as they play hard and deserve to be in a Komet Uniform. I don't like coasters and guys that don't care and basically admit it.

I think alot of fans here wouldn't mind seeing some new faces mixed in with a few of the old ones. I think there has to be a good mix. And they have to find young guys that play good hockey. That is a must for lots of reasons.

komets10
Sat, 08/27/2011 - 12:08am

I agree in that coasters on any of my sports team i dont like seeing. One thing about PC though, is that when he needs to go..he goes. His playoff #'s are always near if not at the top. I like that about him. I will take his regular season play if it means we get that kind of post-season output.

One thing I like about minor league hockey is that you get to see new players. I like getting new ones too. But it's all out of my control so I try not to worry about it so much. I'm the biggest proponent in getting quality young players. I believe that is what separates the good from great teams. I am not for getting younger just to get younger however. Since I don't know what are options are in recruiting, I find it hard to complain. I'd take Drouin and Thomas over a young kid who has no established numbers in a quality league. I just think FTW is not an attractive place for young guys because we have a stigma attached to us that we are here to win because that's what the fans demand. I dont think that is a bad thing.

Hit Somebody!!!
Sat, 08/27/2011 - 12:16am

They do have some of those young guys into some AHL camps....which I am not sure these players get without the help of the Komets. I am not 100% positive on that one though.

We shall see in camp if the recruiting is what it should be. Hopefully it is, because I think they need some younger, quicker, hungrier, talented hcokey players on this team to compete in this league.

I also hope this team plays with urgency more often this season from the start. I would love to see some shifts, would love all of them, but I will just say some shifts where guys go out and play physical and make it difficult for the opponent to move around on the ice. It wouldn't hurt to have some bodychecks this season to let the other teams know we are here to play hockey.

I don't mean goonery and fighting. Physical, aggressive, speedy, make your own chances, type of hockey that is fun to watch, and a pain in the butt for the other teams to play against.

komets10
Sat, 08/27/2011 - 12:24am

I have a feeling this team will play with urgency. It makes sense to bring Thomas back. If he takes any pride at all in his game, he will play the most urgent out of all of them. So if this is what the K's are aiming for, I think Thomas is the best player to bring in. Someone with something to prove. You never know what you're going to get by going out of house. Look at Patrosso. I think he dogged it more than any player on the team last year. My proof is his playoff numbers. Its no secret the intensity goes up in the playoffs and its the job of the player to elevate his game. Patrosso is a historically bad playoff guy, even though he only has had a few years. However, my theory is is that he dogs it in the regular season and doesnt bother stepping up and just plays that more terrible in the playoffs.

And Drouin is kind of an interesting topic...i mean if i gave you this players stats not knowing his name or anything about him...would you take him? I would. I would think he had a down year and then I would see that the whole team had a down year. So I would give him another chance based on his output from years past.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=1439

Young players are the ones that are going to bring the energy. I agree with you that they are the most fun to watch. That's why I love Martinson coached teams. Again though, he has the track record of getting guys to the AHL. Not just for tryouts but 2 way deals and extended stays during the year. We just arent like that. Fort Wayne has never been a franchise that makes moving players up priority number 1. And I dont blame them because the fans wouldnt like it.

Hit Somebody!!!
Sat, 08/27/2011 - 12:35am

I think that attitude of ownership and fans will have to change in the next couple of years. If we goto the ECHL, developing players and seeing some guys move up and down will have to be the norm.

Unless Hextall has invented some new cities and teams within our footprint that no one has a clue about.

I can't see Bloomington and QuadCity going another year of Pro hockey after this season. I think both are prime candidates for USHL.

The Komets are going to have to make a tough decision next year.

ECHL or something new.

The travel in the CHL will kill them.

komets10
Sat, 08/27/2011 - 12:43am

Yeah I think the writing is on the wall as far as the CHL goes. Bloomington isnt going to be around much longer and well Dayton is not exactly bringing them in. Fort Wayne can't stay in this league. It makes no sense travel wise. Problem is, all leagues have their own messes. Until hockey unites like MLB and their minor league system, there will always be this problem. Youre right. If we do get the ECHL, fans will have to accept that it's not that much different than college hockey in that it's pretty young and all are looking to move up.

JB
Sat, 08/27/2011 - 11:39am

Also, the ECHL has a one million dollar entry fee, and you are guaranteed to be able to retain your team name/logo. Agree with need one united AA hockey league divided into geographic divisions.

JB
Sat, 08/27/2011 - 11:41am

Oops, make that NOT guaranteed. Fingers faster than brain!
