Blowing sunshine

The Indiana House has approved legislation that would prohibit the governor from soliciting or receiving campaign contributions during the General Assembly's long budget-writing sessions, and the sponsor doesn't want any misunderstandings.

(Rep. Kreg) Battles says he wasn't implying that anything wrong has occurred, just that there should be more sunshine in state government.

We could talke about the legislature being unwilling to take up the anti-revolving door measures the executive branch has adopted. We could talk about legislators' unwillingness to make greater disclosures of gifts and such from lobbyists. We could talk about the apparent derailing of the bill to give public-access laws more teeth. But if we had all day, we couldn't list all the ways an Indiana lawmaker piously calling for "more sunshine" is funny.
