World leaders are heading for Washington to discuss what Barack Obama has described as "the most immediate and extreme threat to global security" - the risk that terrorists could acquire a nuclear bomb.
. . . that makes border security even more important, doesn't it?
Sen. Jon Kyl on ABC's "This Week" yesterday:
. . . the conditions for immigration reform no longer exist. The consensus that existed before does not exist. And among other reasons, because the administration -- this current administration has not done what's necessary to secure the border and enforce the law. We just saw the tragic death of a rancher down on the border, presumably from drug smugglers or illegal immigrants, that simply illustrates once again the fact that we have not controlled the border.

Leo, Leo, Leo....Everybody knows if you think securing our borders is a good idea then you obviously hate people of color and are a racist.
Get with the times man!
Obama is right to focus on the nuclear question right now. But I don't see the connection between our border security and the nuclear question. Am I missing something? Aren't we more concerned with rogue states getting nukes from Pakistan, or some other unstable area?
With a nuclear bomb, a border is pretty much NOT an issue. Light off a nuke in Mexico or Canada NEAR the US and we have a major problem.
Nobody else is worried about a suitcase nuclear bomb (or a chemical or biological agent) being smuggled across the border by terrorists? Well, call me paranoid, I guess.
Leo is right, if you can smuggle tons of cocaine and marijuana across the border it wouldn't take much effort to toss a briefcase with a nuke in with it, would it?
Okay, here's the plan...
We empty out Yucca Mountain, and place all the nuclear waste ACROSS OUR BORDERS (leave the lids open if 'ya like").
Also, keep the LEGAL entry points free and clear.
Then, anyone coming into this country with a high RAD count gets bounced back to Mexico pronto.
Try to STEAL the stuff...and you DIE...period.
Of course, we WILL have a nice "dead zone" along that area, but there's not much there anyway.
That should work well for the half-life of that spent nuclear material.
(it does have the novelty of never having been tried yet...and could be quite cost-effective in the long run in securing the southern border)
;)
