The center, retooled

It's good to have such a big belly laugh so early in the week:

Obama is seeking to cast himself as a centrist in the bitter debate. His 2012 re-election hopes hinge not only on reducing America's 9.2 percent unemployment but on his appeal to independent voters who are increasingly turned off by partisan rancor in Washington and want tougher action to get the country's fiscal house in order.

I don't think you can even see the center from where he is. And, oh, there is this amusing mixed metaphor:

This came after Obama, at a news conference, declared it is time for both Republicans and Democrats to "pull off the Band-aid, eat our peas" and make sacrifices.

If I pull off my Band-Aid (correct capitalization there) before eating my peas, won't I get an infection? What if I don't have a Band-Aid? Do I have to put one on, then take it off? And what sacrifices do I make? I know -- somebody else can have my peas.

I feel sooooo much better knowing that committing economic suicide will be no worse than eating my peas. Now that it's been put in perspective, let's borrow a few trillion bucks to pay the interest on the interest. I hear China's offering a "teaser" rate!
