Opening Arguments

Come on down!

We really do act like a bunch of hicks sometimes, don't we?

The Duff-Dugan family of Fort Wayne wants to play the television game show "Deal or No Deal," but the family's plans for any winnings are anything but playful: They want to build a school in Bangladesh.
Lisa Duff-Dugan and three of her five children -- Michaela Dugan, 12; Tristan Dugan, 15; and Alyssa Dugan, 17 -- were among several hundred "Deal" hopefuls camping out at Bob Rohrman Indy Car Truck Superstore, 7101 E. Washington St.
Contestant auditions will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today.
I bet if "Wheel of Fortune" taped a show in Indianapolis, every newspaper in the state would have Vanna White on the front page. Whatever happened to the days when we had dignity and common sense and only camped out to get the newest electronic toy or the best seats at a rock concert?

Leo, have you lost your sense of humor or have I? I'm not sure whether your sarcasm here is real or somehow satirical and I just missed it. Is there really a difference between waiting all day to see the Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium and waiting all afternoon to be on a game show? At least the Duff-Dugans have a loftier goal for their waiting.

Recently I met several of the kids from this family and they are an impressive bunch. They're developing educational software - very cool stuff.

I hope they make it on the show.
