Comparable worthlessness

This is probably the last gasp of those still trying to find a reason to keep John Roberts off the Supreme Court. The idea in question is still a matter of dispute now, and it certainly wasn't "out of the mainstream" back then. He did not "scoff" at the idea of "equal pay." He dismissed the concept of "comparable worth" as unworthy of consideration, as he certainly should have.

Anybody who causes such consternation on both the far left and far right, as Roberts has, is probably exactly what the high court needs. The fact that he wouldn't let the White House bend to the whims of Michael Jackson while he still wielded celebrity clout makes me like him even more.

And everything I've read about him -- so far -- makes me think he would look at every single case and try to decide what legislators intended and what the Constitution permits. After decades of the expansion of the court's powers, sometimes to the left and sometimes to the right, I think that's the kind of minimalist approach we need.
