Dang, that's a lot of coupons

If you're still having trouble grasping how much $787 billion is, here's a nifty rundown on some of "What the stimulus package could buy." It could, for example, pay every U.S. elementary school teacher's salary for 11 years. Or it could buy  more than 45 million Pontiac G5s. This is my favorite:

Over 19.6 billion digital TV converter box coupons

There would be no shortage of government sponsored digital TV converter box coupons if the stimulus funds were used to supply over 19.6 billion of the $40 coupons.

Of course, all that money could buy a lot of votes, too, forgive me for suggesting it. About 129 million people voted in the presidential election, so you could get them all for $6,100 each, but a lot of people wouldn't stay bought for that little. You could buy half of them for $12,200 each, or . . . well, you do the math.
