Democrat lite

Via the corner, when Hillary Clinton is right, she's right:

Just two weeks ago, Senator McCain said he'd rather do nothing than something about the housing crisis... Today, it looks like he's proposing a warmed-over, half-hearted version of the very plan he criticized...

This is one of those turnabouts that drives McCain's fellow Repbulicans crazy --  there is no need for three Democrats in the race. McCain was right when he said it is "not government's duty to bail out and reward those who act irresponsibly, whether they are big banks or small borrowers." Now, he wants government to "help out" "qualified" homeowners with subprime mortages refinance. This will be too much for conservatives but not nearly enough for liberals. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Oh, don't worry, McCain shows every sign of continuing to run up the deficit in the spirit of Reagan, Bush, and Bush.

Leo, you are right. This is the sort of thing McCain does that just drives me nuts............

However....

With McCain I've got about a 50% chance of losing half my income and net worth. That jumps to about 90% with The Glacier or The Messiah, hence the forthcoming vote for "Democrat Lite".

McCain toyed with turning Democrat in 2000/2001. And in 2004, Kerry asked him if he wanted to be his running mate.

Hillary, meanwhile, is an old Goldwater girl, a hawk who attends a fundamentalist church.

A few weeks ago, when Bill and Hillary were comparing McCain favorably to Obama, the story was going around that McCain was going to ask Hillary to be his running mate.

I never believed it - but there's a lot of resentment of the Clintons in the Democratic party because Bill had short coattails. He did little in the 1990s to get Democrats elected to the House and the Senate.

And in 2004, Hillary didn't do much for Kerry. She didn't want to have an incumbent Democrat standing in her way when she ran for President in 2008. Now, she knows she can't win the nomination this year, but she doesn't want to drop out of the race, because if she can keep Obama from getting elected this time around, she won't have an incumbent Democrat standing in her way in 2012.

There are a lot of voters who don't want Obama to win because he's mulatto, but nobody's opposed to Hillary because she's a woman. They're opposed to her because she's Hillary.

Bob Casey says Obama is going to win Pennsylvania. I'm not sure, but it's surely not going to be the double-digit victory that Clinton needs. On the other hand, Bill said Hillary didn't have a chance unless she won both Ohio and Texas, and Obama ended up winning Texas.

The polls currently have her with about a 5% lead, but it takes a while for polls to gather data and publish it. I think she's gained a couple of points back in the last couple of days. When Obama comes into a state and people get a chance to see him and hear him, he gains ground over Clinton, though, and he's back in Pennsylvania again, so maybe Casey is right.

This country really needs a good Republican president, but we haven't had one since Ford, and I don't see anyone on the horizon riding to the rescue, just neo-cons, theocrats, and others that pretend to be Republican.
