Earth Hour alert!

Earth Hour this year, when everybody is supposed to turn everything off in "a symbolic statement on reducing atmosphere-heating pollution," is set for 8:30 p.m. Saturday. And some places, like Notre Dame, are going to extend the pointless gesture to the whole weekend. The golden Dome and -- not kidding here -- Touchdown Jesus -- will be dark for 60 hours:

The school says keeping the lights at the dome and the library mural off for three nights will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 600 pounds.

Here's what I want you to do. For 60 hours, turn off all your lights, and the air-conditioning or heating, no matter how hot or cold it is. You aren't allowed to watch TV or radio or play with the computer. You must turn the refrigerator off, and you can't cook on the stove. And as you're sitting there in the dark, with nothing to do and no modern conveniences, too hot or too cold, say to yourself: This is how the environmental crazies want me to live all the time.

Oh, well. I was so tickled by what I wrote for Earth Hour last year that I sat in my office cackling like an idiot until people started looking in to see what was wrong. So let's see some of it again:

Just whittlin' away here while the world goes by faster and faster. First there was Earth Day. Now, for those with short attention spans . . .

Hopes for a binding treaty to halt global warming, the story notes, “were dashed when December's summit of world leaders only yielded a general agreement on limiting warming to two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit).” Dashed, I tell you, and smashed to smithereens and battered and tossed aside. I weep. I mourn. Let's all weep and mourn together. Let's all helpt stop this madness by all hoping and wishing together. Let's all go dark for Earth Secon

Utterly pointless; I agree. Right down there with wearing a flag lapel pin. There's plenty of stupidity on both sides of the aisle.

I was SO busy cranking on every electrical device in our home to even notice the whole "earth hour" gig...
(was trying to drown out the boomcars that the police don't bother to catch...lol)

I PAY for all of it...so I'm USING it,dammit!

(Oh, and let's not forget those "support our troops" ribbons, too hmm?)
