Easy commute

Wave of the future?

A Virginia company today announced it will hire 480 people to work in a "virtual" call center - their own homes.

N.E.W. Customer Service Companies will hire customer reps from Terre Haute and surrounding west-central Indiana cities over the next three years.

The company provides service plans, wireless handset replacement nsurance and customer support services for the consumer electronic, computer and wireless industries, according to a news release from the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

Soooo cool. I envy my brother's ability to telecommute, and I'd love to do it, too. What commuting costs are just now forcing many to contemplate, technology has made possible for years.

There's actually less telecommuting today than there was a decade ago. Companies don't like it, and I'm not sure why.

If you could telecommute, you could probably work from a card table on the beach in the Carribean, with warm water lapping at your bare feet. That sounds good.

But so could someone who lives in Mumbai.

Office fussbudgets can't make you follow pointless rules if you're safely working from home.

Funny, I know many data entry people doing scheduling and preparing bills of lading, etc. from their homes for local companies...and it seems to work fine for them.

And then there are the coffee breaks...with REAL coffee...!
(brewed with care AT HOME)
Gotta love that.

I get more done on my laptop on my couch than I would at the office. This is 2008, the only reason I need an office is for my franchisee to hang the logo and charge me for the right to put the logo with my name.
