Opening Arguments

Fantasy of the day

I'll believe it when I see it:

Democrats want more economic stimulus. Republicans are unlikely to back new spending programs. The middle ground may be temporary tax cuts.

The basic idea would be to target the cuts to encourage businesses to hire more people and people to spend more money.

So it's no surprise to read in this morning's WSJ that the Obama Administration is looking at a number of possible tax cuts, including cutting the payroll taxes businesses have to pay for each employee.

Something that might actually work to stimulate the economy, from this administration? Nah. And of course Democrats can only bear to talk about "temporary" ta

And the BUSH tax cuts were temporary too. Apparently, the GOP could not bear to do anything else.

Leo, that has been there argument since inauguration day. They use one of these two:

1. It's Bush's fault

or

2. Bush did it too.

How many times do tax cuts have to fail miserably for you to admit they're a bad idea?
Reagan cut taxes and we got a record deficit.
Dubya cut taxes and we got another record deficit.
Clinton raised taxes and we got a record surplus.
So what do you want to do again? Cut taxes.
Wow, what a great idea. It's sure to work this time.
I realize that drinking the libertarian Kool-Aid means you can't admit a mistake. But how many times do you have to hit yourself in the head with a hammer?
And no, Obama has not raised your taxes. He has cut taxes. But he will let the Dubya tax cut on the filthy rich expire, exactly as Bush intended. I guess Ogden pays you a quarter of a million a year (that's what they always paid me), so I can understand your objection.

littleJohn, Defecits coupled with booming economies and low unemployment. Clinton was riding a wave of prosperity he did nothing to create.

And just how many poor people have you worked for?
