Franke on moves

No matter who shows up on the transactions page now, Komets General Manager David Franke isn't guaranteeing anyone a roster spot.

``We're going to have more good kids in training camp so there will be genuine competition for jobs this year,'' Franke said. ``Just because you have signed, there are going to be people looking for your job so you have to be ready to go. That makes for competition in training camp and brings out the best in everybody.''

The one thing we have to have is scoring on all three lines. We can't get it done with two line scoring and a checking line. Everybody has to chip in whether in a big way or a litle way. When we've been successful in the past, we've had offense from all three lines.''

Quick hits:

On Franke DeAngelis: Should know something by early next week.

Nothing new on Simon Mangos

Not talking with Brent Henley.

Hope to have the schedule ready to go mid-week next week.

Not sure on Apod right now. He's vacationing in Turkey. Sounds like Komets ahve cooled on

Offer out to both Molle and his brother.

``We probably are talking to at least two dozen players right now minimum that we're going to know something one way or the other in a week or two.''

I think there might be a fabulous, fantastic, favorable and feasible swapping of forwards in this Friday fibber of Ficorelli fantasy field.

Good Luck finding it in this collection of wasted words:

Oh, and I think RC just stole a quality player.

Andrea, you posted that you wondered why they did not fax the contracts. A friend of mine is a delivery driver, and they usually send them via courier service (think FedEx). Copies of contracts are not legal....they need the original signature in most cases. That's why they cannot have a faxed signature, or even a scanned and emailed version. No matter how convenient that might be. I'm not an attorney (nor did I stay at a Holiday In Express last night), but that's my theory as to why they do that the way they do it, slow though it may be. :)

BLB,

If I remember my Business Law class, that sounds correct.

And I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express either....but would if they have an indoor pool...I'm there!

Ok, everyone is worried about scoring and players coming back from last season. Did we all forget that the core of the players that came back last year won three championships in three years. I agree that they need to add scorers but it is July. I don't think you'll see the goal scorers until late August or even early September. The scorers know they are hot items, they are waiting for the best deals.

Second, I believe Artem was the most underrated player on the team. When he got here he was used to playing a euro style of hockey, towards the end of the season he was alot more physical. However, because of his speed he is a better asset as an offensive forward. The more he plays over here the better he will be. He could be potentially a 30+ goal scorer. He should be signed ASAP. But, since he is protected he isn't a free agent and if he didn't want to come back they wouldn't have wasted a spot on him.

Third, I do believe there are still a number of good players out there. The ones from the Bugs will prob be easier to get than the Eagles. Nathan Lutz would be a good, bulky defenseman that can score and move the puck. A lot of the players that are signed are just fillers for training camp. So far I think Chaulk, Smith, Milam, Shrock, Cescon, and Boucher are guaranteed. LaPointe would be a good third line center for his defensive zone face-off wins. P.C. will have to get faster to make it, too many young guys with speed.

Finally, its still early and no one else is signing top goal scorers, so everyone be patient the Franke's are dedicating to winning. Will be a better season than last year, we have Chaulker all season. Had he been here the team would have played better the first part of last season.

Ya, A-Pod was overrated for doing nothing all season. I knew thatd be the case when they gave him his own separate intro skit, then played his music the once or twice a week he would get on the ice, and even pushed his black T-shirts with his close-up on them. All of this, then APod doesnt even make the playoff roster or score a goal his entire stint here. APod was WAY overrated. Oh, nevermind, I have him confused with someone else.

AC- Lutz was the first player signed by the Chicago Express of the ECHL.

APod did okay, now Mirasty is a different story. We need a player/fighter, not a showboater.

Artem played half a season last year, you double his goals, this would be 16. Double the assists would be 20. That's 36 points. Not bad for a rookie. The more he plays the better he will be. He made the key assist when Leo scored with 2 seconds left in O.T. Just saying he is an asset, let Chaulk and Shafronov work with him and he could be really good.

Thanks JM for the update on Lutz, hadn't heard anything on him. Looks like the ECHL is getting the better players who are free agents.

Also Bryant Molle looks like he good be pretty good. He is a little bit bigger than his brother.

With three centers signed, what is the word on Curadeau? Is he coming back or moving on somewhere else in the league? He didn't have a great regular season but turned it on in the playoffs to the player we all remember he could be.

APOD was one of our best players during the playoffs.

I truly think if he was on a line with either Chaulk or Smith and one bigtime goalscorer....APOD would put up 75 points.

My words on Curadeau:

Snake-bit
Squeezed his stick too tight
Bad-Back

What were some of the other choice phrases?

I totally agree Hit about Apod. Need somebody to feed him the puck, i.e. Smith or Chaulk, and a big name scorer to take the attention off of him (Apod).

Another note on Apod: how many goals did the Komets score on the power play from penalties that Artem drew?

So is Curadeau coming back or no? I haven't heard much of his name this off season compared to years past. If he isn't coming back is he done playing?

Per July 21st post from mightbite: "You will like the next player signings to be announced in five to seven days." He has posted on Cohn's blog that Frankie D. is announced next week. That would be terrific!!

Question to you mightbite, are there any snipers ( and I mean real snipers ) to be announced soon?

I believe in your announcements.

Thanks in advance.

I agree KometKrazy. Curadeau has too much talent to be "thrown away". He stats in the playoffs were better than anyone else's. Someone thought he had the stuff to play in the AHL and have such solid stats with K-Zoo two seasons ago. He got paid highly last season. Remove the pressure and let him just play hockey. At the right salary let him have a chance.

Hit Somebody!!!
Sun, 07/24/2011 - 1:11pm

But will he take the "right salary"?

How was he in the room? Lots of rumors last year that certain guys were less than popular in the room. I am not saying he was one of those....just makes you wonder though???

I am with Snuff on this one....time to turn the page and bring in some new blood with proven stats and/or the youth and hunger to put up the stats.

Thanks, I just thought it was odd how last summer he was all the hype in signing and now this summer Blake hasn't mentioned a peep of him. Almost like he did the city wrong.

So it sounds like Frankie is in, he continues to impress me. what about OC? I always feel he plays the game the way it should be played.
