Tailing the Komets

Frenchy update

He told me today that he met again with the Frankes and he was encouraged. ``They told me what they want from me, and I told them what I need from them,'' he said. ``Now we're talking numbers.''

A decision will probably be made by Tuesday.

In other news, Hit, what's the deal? I leave you in charge and you take down the whole system! 97, hours Hit Somebody forced the system to crash with his numbers game!

Oh, well, I'm going back to counting 99 bottles of beer on the bar. Blake

Believe neither know what they are talking about and both have a 50/50 chance of being right and the one that is wrong will claim either "a last minute compromise was struck" or "negotiations broke down at the last minute"

dnlkomets,
Do you think Goodwin might be another Warren Young? (50 goals one year playing with Mario then pretty much never heard from again after that)

Nahh, Goodwin is a good player don't get me wrong. I think his first season was bloated however because he had a stellar line to work with. I think he can one day be at the level of a Chaulk or Venedam (or close to it), but it'll take a few more years.

Goodwin still had decent numbers this past season....but those numbers will be awesome if he gets the right supporting cast and if Bingham's systems allow Goodwin to take his game up to another level. If that happens, then Goodwin could be one of the top 5 players in the UHL.

For the record Young had 40 goals one year not 50, went to Detroit after that season and a year later was pretty much out of the NHL.
I might argue Venedam wasn't as good as he was if not for the line. Really Chaulk fell off this year maybe because the line broke up. Is it possible all three had inflated numbers because of the fact that they worked so well together. That happens in hockey more than any other sport. It doesn't mean the three aren't good/great players. But as a line they clicked and made each other even better.
That is the key to building championship hockey. You don't need the MOST talented guys. You need talented guys who together can click and make each other great. I think that is what happened on the Chaulk/Goodwin/Venedam line.

All 3 guys (Venedam, Chaulk, and Goodwin) are good players. They were great players together. The problem I saw last season was the team never seemed to have the same lines together for more than a 2-3 game stretch. You at some point need to put guys together and give them a chance to gel. It happened 2 seasons ago with the "CGV" line, then the brilliant coach decided to mix lines last season and in my opinion it cost him. That was one thing that I noticed over and over from game to game. He would never just leave guys together and allow them to play together. There was one point last season when Galbraith, Chaulk, and Goodwin were together for a few games and they looked good together, then switched. Another line that I remember was Miller, Hukalo, and Luciuk for a short time and they played well, only to be re-shuffled again. I am sure that changing lines up at times is a good thing, but not every other game. I doubt the new coach plays these types of games with his players like the previous moron did.

The constant re-shuffling of lines reminded me of when Fort Wayne had the Fury BB team. It always seemed like if they lost a game or two in a row, the team would trade about half the roster overnight! While the Komets did almost the same thing, just shuffle the lines instead of trading players every week like the old FW Fury did. Really difficult to put the puzzle together when someone keeps hiding the pieces.

Blake,,,does the old rule apply....."you break it...you buy it." Send the bill to Komet Warrior. His dad coaches the Chicago Hounds. Komet Warrior is future UHL coaching material. Better get him fitted for his card-board cutout.
