People with a certain gene trait are known to be more kind and caring than people without it, and strangers can quickly tell the difference, according to US research published on Monday.

The variation is linked to the body's receptor gene of oxytocin, sometimes called the "love hormone" because it often manifests during sex and promotes bonding, empathy and other social behaviors.

And don't bother trying to look purty for that gal your a tryin' to hook up with online:

Posting the most flattering picture possible alongside one's profile may seem a legitimate part of the internet dating game.  

But if new research is to be believed, those who try to level the playing field by using photos which disguise their worst features could be wasting their  time.  

According to a university study, women can still identify a physically  attractive man just by reading his profile.

People can know so much about me with so little effort. It's enough to make me paranoid. Think I'll go home now, turn off the lights and pull the curtains. Oh, and memo to self: Don't forget the tinfoil hat.
