From an editorial in the Richmond Palladium-Item:
Monday's announcement by Cabon Motors was not the really big news we are all anxiously awaiting, but to the extent that it is the latest step toward what we hope will be federal approval of a $310 million loan request, we are happy with it.
This is one of my minor usage peeves. If you're looking forward to something potentially exciting, the word is "eager." If you're "anxious," you're worried about something potentially dreadful. I realize this is another one of those word's misused so often that the new meaning will soon be deemed acceptable by dictionaries, so I just to get my licks in while I can.
