Opening Arguments

Gun violence

This is a pretty comprehensive look at the state of gun laws and pretty evenly balanced in presenting the views of both gun supports and gun-control advocates. But it veers into wishful thinking at the end:

Gun regulations, while complicated and cumbersome, are the answer to eliminating gun violence, according to Berarducci.

“This is all about partnerships,” he said. “We work closely with county, city and state law enforcement” to enforce the laws on the books.

“That's why we're successful in what we do.”

Gun regulations can't even control who has guns, let alone how they are used. The only answer to lessening gun violence (not "eliminating," alas) is to be serious about punishing people who use guns to commit (rather than defend against) violence.

THANK YOU...thank you....

Leo, you got it in "One"!

NOw...if only the RIGHT people could figure that ONE out...!

Guns cause crime like FLIES cause GARBAGE.

It's the PEOPLE!

And it doesn't get any easier to figure out that that!

My friend's brother was shot in twice in the Hobby Lobby parking lot on Coldwater Rd. The perpetrator, who also shot another man in the process, received about 8 months jail time and 2 years probation/house arrest.

This is the problem - there is absolutely no deterrent. Empty your clip into two people and you get 8 months in jail - remember that next time elections roll around...

Jeff - Yes, I wholeheartedly agree, but would add one other item. I think the 2 most important deterrents to violent, gun-related crime is 1) to make the punishment very, very harsh for committing a crime with a gun (handgun or not) and 2) the more good guys we have armed on the streets, the less the bad guys will want to try anything, ... I just went through all the class and range work to renew my permit to carry a concealed handgun and I plan on carrying till I

Open carry laws are starting to gather momentum in various states. And I would be for that HERE.
Most of the "gun-related" crimes are crimes of opportunity (some dips**t with too much time on his little criminal hands...just looking for that "next pigeon"), so my feeling that SEEING all these (law-abiding) people wearing their piece on their hip would make a LOT of these thugs think TWICE about even approaching them.

The same registration process would apply as with the current CCW. And you could use the CCW card as another form of ID (as long as a thumb-print was included).

((Then again...using a 12 gauge pump w/ rifled slugs doesn't require a CCW....))

Larry's right...the MORE good guys we have...the fewer bad ones will try anything.

btw...where did you do your range testing...I'm curious as to where they even HAVE a facility around here?
(the former ACSD outdoor range up north has been closed for some time now...damn shame.)

Sorry, Bob, didn't mean to give you the idea I live in Indiana - I'm originally from Ft. Wayne, Leo's my brother - I long ago moved to central Texas, ... So I doubt my local range is close to you, ...

I look forward to converting my carry permit to Indiana's new lifetime carry permit shortly.

I want to get that done asap, before national reciprocal permit recognition starts California to whining about Indiana's supposedly scandalous respect for both our federal and state constitutions.

I plan to complain even louder about their contempt for same. Some day maybe they'll rejoin the union? Naaah.

AH...Central Texas...that kind of 'splains a lot...LOL

Where you can carry anything almost anywhere...and use it.

I'll pass on visiting your range down there....for now.

;)

"I'll pass on visiting your range down there....for now." - if you're ever in central Texas, I'd be pleased to show you my range (on my own property, ...)
