Hairy John

John Edwards can spend his money any way he wants to, but doesn't this make him at least as out of touch with "ordinary people" as Rudy Giuliani supposedly is for not knowing the cost of milk and bread?

Former Sen. John Edwards, whose wind-swept look has drawn its share of comment in the presidential race, evidently took time out from his campaign to stop for a haircut.

But this wasn't your basic barber shop. Rather, Edwards apparently visited Torrenueva Hair Designs in Beverly Hills, owned by celebrity stylist Joseph Torrenueva. And he paid Rodeo Drive prices. Twice.

According to his campaign finance report, Edwards' campaign spent $400 at the salon on Feb. 20. Two weeks later, it spent another $400.

The reports did not say explicitly that it was Edwards who received the haircuts, and neither his campaign nor Torrenueva returned calls seeking comment.

This one hits close to home for me. Every time I find an old-fashioned barber shop, where it is still possible to get a basic haircut for $6 or $7, it closes. The last one was on Fairfield Avenue near the grocery store (Rogers, then Mark's, now George's); the owner worked only half-time and finally retired. My current choice is on Broadway; the owner works only half-time and looks suspiciously close to retirement age. I dread the day when I have to finally give up and go to one of those salons they have in the malls and spend $15 or $20 or whatever it is, with no 15-year-old calendars on the wall or copies of Field and Stream to read. On the other hand, I may not even have enough hair left to cut.

Silly, hairy pretty boy. Not that I'm bitter.

I echo your sentiment and concern - I finally found a place in town where I can get a haircut for $12 - a little more than a traditional barber, but not as much as those "style" places. And, yes, this is just another example that goes the way of milk and bread, ...

Tell me one politician running for President who doesn't get expensive haircuts. I'd be willing to bet you that Mitt Romney probably spends 2 times what Edwards does to keep his (Romney's) hair in place.

How much does Obama spend? Definitely more than the $20 maximum that most black guys spend on a haircut.

OK...to address the whole "hair" thing...any decent guy should date some sort of hair stylist for a brief time (preferably female and she can be cute), to get an idea how to cut YOUR OWN hair. You CAN save some serious money that way, and even make some money on the side. I haven't been to a REAL barber since the 80s, and I look neither like Grizzly Adams NOR a person who got his head caught in a food processor...lol!

Or we could all just shave our heads...it seems to be in vogue these days.

And did Edwards REALLY shell out the $$$ for his hair stylings on Rodeo Drive...or did "WE"?

;)

Come to Ft Myers and get that $12 haircut along with a free beer--I never have to remind my husband to get a haircut when we're here!!

I think I may have to consider a move to Ft Myers, ... or gift a beer frigde to my barber. (second choice is better, I like my view, ...)

I think everybody has missed the important part here, If the silky pony get's elected, he's vowed to bridge the gap between the two Americas!

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that means we ALL get $400 haircuts or he has to go back to $12 haircuts, and I don't see THAT happening......

Damn, we'll ALL be lookin' good!!!! Start stocking up on Breck!!!

No, Tim, I haven't missed the important part - I'm trying to ignore John Edwards the way I always have, ... :-))

Consider a certain salon run by a woman who also cuts men's hair on Indiana Avenue. You just might like it!
