Half and half

A McClatchy Newspapers reporter discovers statistics:

Half the nation's families earn below the median family income of about $56,000.

Surprisingly enough, half earn above the median. That's why it's called, you know, the median.

Where have all the editors gone. In the old days, an editor would have prevented this gaff from getting into the paper ...and a proof reader would have backed him up. Instead we now have the computer checking for spelling and context errors.

Oh ...excuse me. Leo, you are an editor, aren't you?

That was back in the day alright, when reporters actually covered the news - what a novel concept. And they actually investigated stuff and asked the tough questions and didn't take things at face value or toe the corporate line.

Now its all about the latest drunken starlet or the disease of the month.
