Hicks in Harlan

Hundreds of less-than-progressive Harlan residents show up at a meeting on incorporation and say no thank you to the idea of becoming a town:

Opponents feel the costs would outweigh the benefits.

They say incorporation would mean higher property taxes but services, like fire and police protection, wouldn't improve much.

What ingrates. Here they have an opportunity to be governed like other civilized people, and they're whining about the reasonable tradeoff of paying more without getting more.

Leo:
Makes 'ya wanna move right on UP there and try to "splain" it to them...for say, the next 30-40 years, doesn't it?
(the word KISMET comes to mind for some odd reason)

Don't worry Harlanites. If you don't incorporate, eventually the City of Fort Wayne will swallow you up.
