John's day

Happy 99th birthday to the Hoosier basketball legend who didn't routinely embarrass the state:

John Wooden will be honored today with highway signs that tie to Indiana history and the Martinsville legend's love of reading.

The signs are part of a celebration of the coach's 99th birthday today around the area where he grew up.

What a life he's had and what an impact he made. Here are 99 things you might not know about the coach. This one is interesting: "His top salary while coach at UCLA was $35,000." Being a legend pays a little better these days.

One little error on the list of 99 things, and it is item #1. John Wooden went to high school in Martinsville, IN, but was not born there, as is stated. He was born in Hall, IN.

Happy birthday, indeed. Sure hopes he makes it to at least 100.
