A romantic triangle ends in an unsurprising way:
LAKEVILLE, Ind. — An Indiana judge has sentenced a man to 64 years in prison for murdering his best friend and holding his ex-girlfriend captive after learning of their relationship.
Relationships can be tricky, but let's see if we can agree on a couple of things. If I start seeing your ex-girlfriend, I'm probably not your "best" friend. And if you shoot me dead, you certainly aren't mine.

The snippet of story you printed is a little ambiguous.
At what point did she become the shooter's "ex-girlfriend"? Before or after he shot the interloper?
If they had already broken up, then she was fair game, even to his friend. If not, then he should have shot them both.
By the way, I've seen you in the company of my wife.
She has nothing but kind things to say about you.
Don't believe word of it. I'm nasty.
She just doesn't want to get shot - a pretty common attitude.
Actually - and my god I feel sappy - she's said some very nice things about you.
