The Fort Wayne Komets are negotiating to add Jon "Nasty" Mirasty to their lineup. Mirasty, 28, is 5-foot-10, 220 pounds of mean. The seven-year pro has annually averaged more than 300 penalty minutes, though he's scored only 11 goals. Mirasty is under contract to Syracuse of the American Hockey League, but has been playing with Elmira in the ECHL. In 24 games this season he has one goal and 119 penalty minutes.
``We are talking with Syracuse and there is a good chance that he could come to Fort Wayne,'' Komets general manager David Franke said. ``It's a possibility. We are talking to Syracuse and they want to find a place for him the rest of the year, and we're trying to get that done with them. Hopefully something will happen. There's nothing official right now. That could change.''
Mirasty has played most of the last four years with Syracuse in the AHL. Franke said there's a real good chance Mirasty could come to Fort Wayne, but the team has to make sure everything is finalized before making an announcement.
``I think it's an element we could use,'' Franke said. ``As a 10th forward for us, he's legitimately, big-time tough, and I think it will help our players. They'll have somebody that they know can protect them. That's this guy's job. He knows his job and does it well. Hopefully I can get it worked out that we can get this done, but nothing is official now."
In other roster news, Danko Mironovic, Neil Musselwhite, Leo Thomas and Brandon Warner all said they are ready to come off IR when needed.

That works, that little princess is more my size anyways

I think if mirasty sticks the rest of the year this one signing makes them a very legit team to win it all.....have a guy who wont allow other teams to take liberties on our star players makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE.....lets go Ks!
now the big question is.......we have what 30 players now??? lol so how many guys have to be cut with him comming in and four guys ready to come off ir???
well with him being assigned from Syracuse his first 5 games won't count on the cap or roster space.
Love having Nasty Mirasty dressing for FW. Best news i've heard as a Komets fan in YEARS.
Most entertaining hockey player in all of the minor leagues! Hands down
This sounds great for one of the best minor league hockey city's.
Regardless of whether or not you think he should still be with Syracuse, this transaction is a tough one for him. He was still living in Syracuse with his wife and commuting to Elmira. Now, he's isolated at the lowest rung of pro hockey. No one said the sport is fair, but I can't imagine he would have envisioned this in his wildest dreams when he re-signed with Anaheim/Syracuse last summer.
We are the lowest rung of pro hockey! Komet Hockey!
Blake do you have any updates on Mirasty?
Topshelf, AA isn't the lowest rung on the ladder but it's low enough he may not want to be on it next season.
Interesting signing.
I'll reserve judgement until we see if he knows when to pick his spots or if he ends up costing them games.
He obviously can't score (isn't there to anyway) but he can skate and play a little bit. So I am not going to put him in the classic "goon" slot.
If he can play his 8-10 minutes, play with a positive +/- and protect the stars then it might be a good thing.
For the casual fan who comes to see fighting then it will certainly spark some interest which as an advertiser I am always in favor of! :)
Roger waived. There's one. Who's next?
I think it will be a long shot for him tonight with the weather unless someone is going to pick him up in Det..
Knowing what will happen tonight without an enforcer in orange, the Franke's should have a Tahoe parked at baggage claim to get Nasty to town.
Topshelf "lowest rung of pro hockey." ? Have u been around long enough to know hockey? Besides this is Fort Wayne..., The NHL of minor hockey.
Seriously, that's a bit much, in fact, it's WAY over exaggerated, horribly. The NHL of minor league hockey would not of made us suffer through the past three years.
Did you type "NHL of minor league hockey" with a straight face??? LOL!
If you read the articles, thats what the reporter in Syracuse is calling his move to Ft Wayne and the CHL...
