Tailing the Komets

Komets lose 5-3

And frankly, they got what they deserved from that effort. It should have been 4- or 5-1 after the first period but Nick Boucher kept them in the game. Mario Larocque scored two goals in the final five minutes to give the Icemen the win.

``That team has beaten us all year, and they continue to beat us in this building,'' Komets coach Al Sims said. ``We can't seem to come up with a way to beat them. They played really well, They are a desperate team that played really well to come back from 3-2 with three or four minutes left in the game. It was a great effort by them.''

The bigger news for the Komets is that defenseman Frankie DeAngelis suffered a concussion and needed stitches late in the third period after an elbow by Evansville's Jeff Christian. DeAngel

Base of my questions not being backed by facts? You stated above that "saviours" surely will not let this continue. Logic would tell me that when you use the word "saviours", you are doing so in a sarcastic manner.

Also, you have stated on this blog that you would like to see the Komets get younger and seemed none to pleased with the signing of older players. Plus, you have stated you do advertise with the Komets, but, that question was overlooked in your response.

You don't have to answer any question asked of you, but don't hide behind a statement saying they are not based on facts.

Really Blake? You're going to tell me to stop acting like a 10 year old but you feel no need to say anything to the person that adds NOTHING to the blog other than saying (insert name here) is wrong..they know nothing about hockey..they played hockey at a high level..(insert name here) is a moran..etc etc

Ok, this is going to be long because there is just so much to comment about.

First, and most importantly, I want to let Tim know that I am praying for the speedy recovery of his wife. I have just gotten caught up on the topics of both blogs and haven't had a chance to express my best wishes to you and her.

Secondly I would like to ask anyone who had disrespected the Komets opponents and schedule, how do you feel now? No one "tanked " it during these two games ( except maybe the Komets, right)?

Thirdly. It was reported on the other blog that Bob Chase made some comments on the air that was a little condescending to bloggers. I want everyone to know that I didn't hear these "pregame" comments but have read about them. To be absolutely fair, that fact means that I have heard or read everything "second hand".

Apparently these comments were partly in response to his reading and reacting to some bloggers opinions on the Komet organization, and also the prospect of the Komets moving to the AHL. He deemed those comments as being from people who had no idea how to run a franchise, from opinionated people who should put up the capital and buy the business if they were so smart, and his highly lofted ideas of who and who can't express their opinions.

I want to point out that during the last couple of weeks I have blogged that that the komets may be positionong themselves to have serious talks with the BlueJackets regarding the AHL affiliation they currently enjoy with Springfield. I will NOT reveal the person who told me this. I will tell eveyone that the discussion took place shortly after the announcement was made. I was told that the K's would receive at least two players, may even see a NHL player sent here on rehab (because the distance was so much closer from Columbus to Fort Wayne than from Columbus to Springfield), and could open up future discussions on the AHL affiliation because the present contract would terminate at the end of the season. The distance between the two cities meant a player could be called up in the morning and arrive in the same afternoon, and the fan support of Fort Wayne and its history was well known in the hockey world.

The person who "told" me this asked that I keep his or her identity a secret and I will. I will tell you all this much; this person has a much closer relationship with the "decision makers" than Bob Chase ever will. ( It's kind of interesting to inject here that a well known media member in Fort Wayne once told me that for as far as Komet happenings, Bob Chase is many times the last to know).

Bob Chase has used his position as a radio icon to express his opinions on many things. Sometimes he gets paid for doing it, other times he inserts them into his radio broadcasts. I tend to agree with him on 95% of the comments he makes. However, I feel it is a bit unfair of him to think he should be allowed his opinions and, at the same time, disregard others as uninformed. He has no right to assume that. Guess what, Bob. There are smart people who blog, too.

Mr. Snufflupugus, it's your turn. No one hears anything from you as the Komets go on a terrrific win straek. Yet, when they lose two in a row you come on this blog as a "wise old sage" telling people to calm down. That it's just two in a row. Wait a minute! You were the one who bemoaned the fact that the K's were not getting "younger", that they bring in these "veteran IHL players" instead of younger, quicker, hungrier, kids. YOU need to realize that the reason the K's went on this winning tear was because they added Lardner, Chaulk, Lapointe etc. In your above posts you sarcastically termed them "saviours" and the "chosen ones". Your words, not mine.

Maybe you should be the one to get your eyes checked as you suggested to Andrea. Sounds to me like she has the pulse of the situation and you are just off somewhere in your own world. ( Look, no one likes it that you have an ill relative you are concerned with, and we all wish the best for yourself and your relative but you have consistently espoused this team getting younger instead of signing established successful players. You were wrong.)

The game Saturday was what I would call a "pre-Christmas game". I mean they played the Evansville game just like they played during their 5-15-1 start. No huslte, no faceoffs, didn't get to the loose pucks first, no clearing the slot, very lackluster. If they thought they could just "show up" thet found themselves very wrong. Apparently the loss Staurday didn't inspire them against Dayton. These two losses may have well insured them of not finishing in the top four, and losing any home ice advantage they might have won.

Get busy Al Sims and David Franke. Too many guys have gotten comfortable and with the horrid start of the season there is no room left for complacency. You can't win with Warner and Mironovic as part of your starting six.

Here we go.
Some of you don't like my posts.
Fine.
Scroll past them and ignore them.
I will no longer address anything that is in reference to my reasons for posting, my qualifications to post in comparison to anyone elses or anything else that some of you wish to "call me out" on. Some of you see my name and automatically decide to twist my words into something to make yourself (in your minds) look better. I'm done addressing it or defending it.
JM is right. If insulting me or thinking you are going to shout me down makes you happy then feel free. If you think I care what anonymous blog ID thinks of my anonymous blog ID you are mistaken. So if you want to throw darts at me be my guest. They aren't going to hurt me or change anything about who I am. And likewise nobody else is going to change who they are based on what happens here.
Exchanges like tonight prove what Bob said is correct.
The only thing I am sorry for is that I allowed myself to be pulled into it.
Now... we'll see what kind kind of twisted responses this gets...or if those who I expect to respond will simply ignore me as I suggest.

Funny how when the K's win, there are maybe a dozen "Great job tonight" posts, but when they lose all heck breaks loose. And we haven't even gotten into the analysis of what went wrong and how to fix it yet. Lol.

By the way, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the most goals the Komets have had scored against them since December 28, 2007 when they lost 9-3 to the Flint Generals. I find that especially interesting because it was the clear turning point for their season that year. They beat Flint 9-1 the next day, the record home winning streak started, they won the first of 3 Turner Cups, and the rest, as they say, is history. What will this loss mean?

Yeah Snuff has made it clear that he would have preferred the K's go younger. And while it is tempting to say, "See? You were wrong," it's really impossible to say since that was a path not taken. How can we say with any certainty that things wouldn't have worked out just as well if the Frankes had gone that route? We can't. That would be like going to Florida on vacation, having a great time, and thinking the experience somehow proved another vacation spot wouldn't have been as much fun. I could do without the sarcasm, though, tempting as it is to use.

Alan: "Secondly I would like to ask anyone who had disrespected the Komets opponents and schedule, how do you feel now?"

Okay, I'm going to assume this is at least partially directed at me. Just fine, thank you. How are you? :D You're still forgetting that I'm just an observer here. I feel the K's pain, but I'm happy for Dayton and their fans as well (sounds like they should be happy for the ref, but that's another story). As I said before, no team should ever be taken lightly. Bite you on the butt... wounded animal... yada, yada, yada... Any of this ringin' a bell? Any team can beat any other team on any given night if they really want it. All it means is that for that moment in time, they were p.o.ed enough to play up to their potential. Most of the time, the only difference between a good team and a bad team is their attitude, work ethic, and willingness to work together consistantly.

Why down people that bought jerseys. This is for a good cause our men and women that are fighting for our freedom. It is their business on buying one or not.

For Danko I am glad that he played last night. Wish they played him more. We can't win all of them. I would like to a lot of people to be down on that ice and see how well they could play.

Let us just be great fans and keep cheering for them. We have been spoilt with us winning three cups in a row.

It will be interesting how K's respond next game. I think it will be a real reflection in the end as to how the season turns out. Snuff. Don't always agree with your post but feel your pain. As far as GM. I've posted thoughts and opinions many times on the komets and hockey only to be attacked. And YES I will still stick to backing my opinions and knowledge of the game based on my expierence playing it. I have no apologies in that respect.

Mr Snufflupugus
Mon, 02/28/2011 - 10:23am

Wendy great post.
There is no right or wrong but some people like to try and make it out that way.
Mightbite as a fan probably wishes the Komets could clone 20 Mirasty skaters and suit them up because he enjoys those type of players. As a fan he should hope for what he likes because that is what will entertain him.
Other fans might want 20 guys who could skate like the wind because they like speed.

I have my preference of what I wanted to see. A team with 15 guys under the age of 26 and 5 vets but not the same retreads who have been here forever.
It it kind of easy to point fingers at Chaulk and Lardner (who I like and is an example of a good vet who is not a retread) and say how much they helped turn this team around.
DUH! They basically traded Chaulk for a goon who couldn't goon or skate. Yeah I think we can all agree when you trade the last guy on your bench for a top 5 it is going to make this team better.
They might win the cup this year. Chaulk might be the MVP of the league and playoffs. Great. I'd be thrilled that the team won. But as a fan I wish they would have gone about it a different way. Chaulk has more left in the tank than I thought he did. No doubt about it. But you can only go to the well so many times out of loyalty to past players before they either become too old or too comfortable in their surroundings and stop working hard.

JB...agree. Wishful thinking probably but I agree.

Sure, no one has a crystal ball in front of them. The K's had a couple of paths they could have taken after their poor start. Could they have done better by jettisoning the older players and replacing them with youngsters? Maybe, but we will never know. The fact of the matter is they decided to go with players they had some "history" with and the changes produced a 20-5-4 record until Saturday's and Sunday's games. Twenty wins out of twenty nine games is a .672 winning percentage. Not sure they could have found the younger players at that time of the season to come in and do better. Remember, also, that none of the younger players who were in camp made the team. Not sure that they had a handle on which prospects to bring in.

Snuff, if the Komets are in the CHL next year I think you can bet they will do more homework on who to bring in to camp. Some of these veterans are in their last year of playing with the K's and others on the roster will have a tough time making the club or won't even be invited.

I just want everyone to know that when I post it is my opinion and I try to use facts to back those up. Sometimes I can't always reveal where those opinions and facts are born. I also welcome those posts who disagree with me. Just show me where you think I'm wrong and I'll give it consideration. I'm not afraid of being wrong and will gladly admit to it when shown the errors of my way.

I have nothing personal against ANY poster on this blog and would gladly meet you for lunch sometime to discuss stuff. Please don't confuse disagreement with personal anger or resentment. To me these are dialogues, nothing else. As I have stated before, writing in a blog form is a cold way to exchange ideas. It lacks eye contact, inflection, and body language. All of these are important for verbal communication.
